Here’s the last video of my Trio set at the Redwood Coast Music Festival, “Sheik of Araby”. @rcmfest was an absolute BLAST. It’s one of my favorite events every year, and I highly recommend checking it out.
Our good buddy @sailingwanderer snagged some footage of our Trio set at the Festival, where I was joined by @dennislichtman on clarinet (and mandolin), and @weinerbass on bass. With those killer musicians joining me, the set was a real stand out.
Here’s a throwback to one of the most deeply meaningful moments of my life… having the privilege to perform a song on (my hero) Charlie Christian’s 1940 Gibson ES-250.
My bud, @dointhingsgoinplaces and I were asked by the great luthier John Monteleone to perform at an exhibition of his work at the @limuseum - and we had a ball. We roughly structured the set around the history of the Archtop guitar, and played our vintage Gibsons, but also several of John’s extraordinary guitars.
It just worked out that @pre_war_electric had loaned the guitar out as part of John Monteleone’s annual jazz festival earlier in the month. After the festival @mirabellaguitars had made a replica pickguard for the guitar and it was due to go back to its home at the @mimphx - but Lynn Wheelright was kind enough to let it stay in the area a couple weeks so that I could get the chance to play it.
When it was dropped off, and I saw the case, I was immediately overcome with emotion… even before opening the case.
Since our set had been roughly themed about this history of the acoustic archtop guitar, playing one of Charlie Christian’s songs on one of his guitars made the perfect historical finale.
Here’s a quick one chorus hit of “Sweet Georgia Brown” on my 1939 Gibson L-5 (over a rhythm track I recorded first of my 1932 Gibson L-5). Everything was captured with a @ribbonmics R84A active ribbon mic.
Had a great time at @theordinarie with the trio last Wednesday, and I even got to play my new @nationalguitars Custom Style 0 on the gig. I actually played it completely acoustically while everything else was mic’d or electric, and IT CUT! WOW!
We’ve been dealing with a plumbing problem at the house for a week now, so I haven’t had the chance to make any proper videos with it… but SOON!
