Cold days call for warm discoveries ❄️✨ #discoverlongisland
Step inside the @limuseum where you can explore the art, rich history, and timeless stories right here in our own backyard.
Take a step back in time to Long Island 250 years ago with “The Seat of Action: Long Island in the American Revolution & Beyond,” on view at The Long Island Museum through September 13, 2026.
LIM is proud to celebrate the semiquincentennial of the American Revolution and the pivotal role Long Island — an area that was under martial law and British control longer than any other part of the American colonies — played in our nation’s fight for independence. From the daring espionage of the Culper Spy Ring and the leadership of William Floyd to the vital contributions of women and soldiers of color, the exhibition explores the powerful stories of everyday Long Islanders who helped shape the course of American history.

We are thrilled and proud to announce that Lisa Unander, Director of Education at The Long Island Museum, has been selected by the Three Village Historical Society as the recipient of this year's Beverly C. Tyler History Education Award. Lisa was honored at the Three Village Historical Society’s 46th Annual Dinner & Awards Celebration on Wednesday, May 13th at the Old Field Club in East Setauket.
This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon an exceptional teacher, educator, historian, writer, docent, or storyteller for outstanding contributions to history education -- with these awards recognizing local businesses, residents, homeowners, society members and youth whose dedication helps preserve and celebrate our shared heritage across the Three Village area.
Since joining The Long Island Museum in 2006, Lisa has played an instrumental role in the growth of LIM's Education Department, overseeing LIM's school programs that serve more than 3,500 students visiting each year. She was also involved in the creation and continued expansion of LIM's "In the Moment" programs, which are a suite of programs designed to creatively engage those living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of memory loss and their care partners.
We would also like to thank the other hardworking members of our Education Department who help make the museum a world-class cultural destination. We are very grateful to Beth Chiarelli, Samantha O'Rourke, Lynn Adler, and Laura Yacoubi for their passion and dedication to our mission.
Please join us in congratulating Lisa on this well-deserved honor and the continuing positive impact she makes here in the Three Village community!
SAVE THE DATE! LIM is proud to honor the brave and dedicated men and women of the Stony Brook Fire Department at our Winter Gala on November 7, 2026.
The Gala isn’t just the LIM’s most important fundraising event of the year; it provides an opportunity to recognize the many incredible people and organizations that help make our community a unique and vibrant place to live, work, and play. We are grateful to the SBFD for their professionalism and service, and invite you to join us when we honor them this fall.
Dance, dine, and celebrate for a great cause, all while celebrating those who serve and protect us.
All proceeds from the Winter Gala support the Museum’s exhibitions and educational programming.
More information to come soon!

Flashback Friday to when some of our team, including Sarah Abruzzi, LIM’s Co-Executive Director, Operations, met the legendary Wolfie [@wolfieseawolf ] at Stony Brook University [@stonybrooku ]! 🐺❤️🖤
We were happy to have been part of SBU’s 2026 Employee Appreciation Day – where more than 500 employees gathered in the Charles B. Wang Center for the annual campuswide event celebrating the dedication and contributions of staff across the University. We always love partnering with SBU (and catching up with our favorite local celebrity) – and were happy to provide employees with information about all of the great things going on here at LIM that they can join us for! Looking forward to doing it again next academic year!
Good luck to all students during finals! If you need a study break, stop by the museum and enjoy a student discount on admission. Learn about our exhibitions at longislandmusuem.org.
