WEARING A SARI IS AN EXPRESSION OF IDENTITY 🥻 Tomorrow I’ll be sharing a talk about Identity with the Pre-Sessional students @royalcollegeofart . A beautiful Zen Buddhist meditation invites us to ask “Who Am I?” which inspires me to think of who we are without the veils of our personal histories - our cultural identities, post-colonisation and through a decolonial feminist lens. I have been working on my thesis thanks to the help of my tutor @gemmablackshaw and in my research have stumbled upon Hindu goddesses and yoginis, women of yoga and relocated my own personal family archive. I’m enjoying delving into the work of Julietta Singh, learning more about the solidarity of hashtag #browngirl and reconsidering the works of Homi Bhabha, Trinh T. Minha and Gayatri Spivak on cultural hybridity, mimicry and liminal spaces through a post Black Lives Matter lens. I look forward to sharing some of these thoughts in the context of my own work and alter ego @camou_devi and learning more about what Identity means to my fellow students tomorrow. Yesterday’s Banana-themed show @royalcollegeofart was a viiiibe. Slight PTSD remembering my BA degree show dramas many moons ago (long story!) but @helenkgrant totally saved the day, not only with her windup spiders in a Banana box but her practical production skills. Equally excited to share my first public group exhibition which starts tonight’s featuring Anti-Bride: Concrete Jungle, a photographic series from my alter ego @camou_devi , shot by Hana de Jong and Julius Reeves. The show is curated by the wild Meryl Prendergast @meryls.world — founder of @rhizomatic.ldn and Royal College of Art alumna — and takes place at the @oldwaitingroom.peckhamrye at Peckham Rye Station.
