The final weekend of Corsica Studios.
I had the ultimate pleasure last week of hosting megababes Jamie Shearer and Will Taylor - General Manager and Production Manager at Corsica Studios respectively - on my Sister Midnight Radio show.
Working with these two and the rest of the team over the years has been such a formative experience in my life. I really wanted to get them on to capture a bit of an insiders perspective on not just the closing of the venue, but the experience of working there.
We had some lovely chats about the history of the space, its ethos and the work culture that has been formed over the years.

This one’s something a bit different from both of us — more of an interview-style show.
Dom and I have become good friends over the last year, working together on his wicked Shortlist parties at Carpet Shop and grabbing lunches in Peckham. We’ve got a real shared passion for intentional production and creating spaces for the music we love. Even though we curate pretty different sounds, we’ve always felt a strong common ground in how we approach putting on parties.
What started as us chatting loads of shite about all this over a wrap from Yemanes turned into: “Maybe we should do this on radio and see if anyone else finds it interesting?”
So, without further ado, check out the show — chats about myself, Floorless, and Corsica, plus Dom’s backstory, Shortlist, and the new Shortlist Sound.

We’re gonna be opening up the room tonight for a group of really brilliant arists 💙💙 Manami and Beatrice are shaping a new way forward for modern grooving bass music. INGI has been working on this live set for well over a year now, and seeing his sound develop as it come to life has been inspiring. And we first met Wordcolour in this very club, through which their mind-melting remix came to life.
We’ll be getting things in motion - expect weirdo electronica with lots of dubbed out grooves, teeing up what we think will be a really super party

Last week I quietly released this mix from the Corsica Closing party on my sister midnight radio show. b2b with @willtaylor__ from 11am-midday. Room 2.
It was on the tail end of a series of b2bs from Corsica staff. A Real beautiful moment in the party where all the friends & family were pulled into the room,. Some having been there all night, some having gotten up extra early ready for a club breakfast. This session was basically what our lock ins at Corsica were like, with a bit more structure and an audience. Same time, same energy. Bringing your biggest tunes, nothing pretentious, here to have fun with it. I remember when I first started I always thought this was my opportunity to impress the older staff. Always so eager to jump on decks after work finished at 7am.
For this one, we stuck to the assignment. 11am - midday. Groovy, euphoric energy, bringing the party back the life for the roll throughs and a warm landing for the fresh legs. Proggy house, tech & trance. Tried to pull on some tunes with lyrics that related. This first tune you hear in the mix was the last tune from @tristan_aleya b2b @klahrk - two of those older members I thought were the coolest (still do) - SOPHIE - JUST LIKE WE NEVER SAID GOODBYE. This tune kicks my ass now every time I listen to it….. we were young & out of control…
Was beautiful to share this one with Will, a now friend for life & collaborator that I met working on the bar at Corsica. At the time he was my supervisor ejecting anyone who looked at us funny. Spicy Will Taylor protecting his pups.

We spoke about the vision behind the festival, curating across the spectrum of club music, and the realities of running a grassroots event in today’s climate - from rising costs, inflated DJ fees from agencies, to the importance of supporting independent festivals and the communities around them.

For last week’s Sister Midnight show I’ve got a very special recording of a b2b with one of my favourites DJs - @maxwell_owin ! Recorded on NYE on home turf at The Carpet Shop for A Floorless NYE.
The brief was simple on this, closing off the night, Issa a party vibe. We kept it syncopated, drummy and bubbly. No heads down nonsense, hands up champagne nrg. UKG, Funky, Bass, Baile Funk & closing off with some of our fav naughties pop heaters.

This photo was taken deep in a mixing session last year.
James was mixing when the sound started to drift toward drum and bass. When I hear the drums calling I can’t deny them… We joined forces and not a word was said for the 2 hours that followed. We agreed after that that we need to roll this out in a club at some point.
What better occasion than this. The closing of Room 2 AKA the Dojo. Where both of us had some of our most formative DJ experiences.
