@earlyedgeca is pleased to announce that we’re co-sponsoring new legislation with @caltog that supports the development of the bilingual educator workforce to meet the growing demand for multilingual instruction across California schools. 🏫
Assembly Bill (AB) 2325 by Asm. @alvarezsd will provide strategic investments to create a competitive grant program that supports the establishment or expansion of coordinated pathways to prepare multilingual students in becoming bilingual teachers. The program would be administered by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing to support partnerships between LEAs, community colleges, and four-year institutions of higher education.
Latest updates: last week, the bill unanimously passed out of the Assembly Education Committee! 🎉 Thank you to our bill author, Committee Chair @asmdarshana , and the Committee members for prioritizing this critical legislation to support the millions of #MultilingualLearners across our state. During the hearing, Asms. Patel and @asmmiabonta signed on as co-authors of the bill.

"The most effective community schools serve as lighthouses for multilingualism.”💡
@caltog highlights how community schools create safe spaces for English learners to learn, grow, and feel belonging in the classroom. Investments in community schools are investments in California’s multilingual student population ✊
📚 Did you know bilingual students aren’t just learning languages — they’re strengthening their brains too?
Research in Cognition shows bilingual learners develop stronger attention skills and handle conflicting information more efficiently than monolingual peers.
This means dual language programs and multilingual education aren’t just about language — they build lifelong cognitive skills that benefit students in every subject.
Investing in bilingualism is investing in stronger minds.

The knowledge brief series, The Brilliance and Importance of Affirming Black (English) Language in Early Childhood Education, by @blackececa , @caltog , @catalystcalifornia , and @earlyedgeca launches its third volume: Honoring Black Language in Early Learning: Foundations for Literacy Development.
The third volume explains that literacy is a broad, interconnected system rooted in language, where young children develop essential skills through diverse forms of communication long before formal reading begins. It emphasizes that affirming #BlackLanguage in early childhood education is critical, both because early language experiences strongly shape long-term academic success and because literacy has historically been tied to freedom and resistance for Black communities. By recognizing Black Language as an asset and using it to bridge learning, educators can strengthen comprehension, identity, and engagement while supporting early reading development.
The brief calls for culturally affirming practices, meaningful partnerships with Black families, and policy changes, particularly in California, to ensure Black Language is recognized and embedded as a foundational part of literacy development rather than overlooked.
