Chair of Assembly Education Committee Responds to the Governor’s May Revision
SACRAMENTO—Assembly Education Committee Chair Dr. Darshana Patel (D-San Diego County) responds to Governor Newsom’s May Revision to the 2026-27 California budget. Assemblymember Patel has been engaging with the Governor and his administration on crucial proposed changes and goals related to TK-12 Education.
The May Revision eliminated California’s projected deficit while preserving core investments in education, healthcare, and economic growth. This includes the largest special education investment in history, a $2.4 billion ongoing increase to better serve students with disabilities. 📚
Congratulations to our incredible Sacramento State semester interns on completing their internship today in our capitol office! They have both been outstanding in assisting our team with tracking legislation, meeting with organizations and constituents, and serving as such valuable resources throughout their time with our office.
Savanna is graduating with her degree in International Relations, and Alana has another year left in school. I look forward to seeing all that you both accomplish in the future. Stingers Up!

It was incredible to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Chinese School of San Diego! Thank you for a century of serving as a nexus for cultural heritage, education, and diversity. Your work ensures that history, language, and traditions continue to be passed down to future generations. To honor of this momentous milestone, @asmchrisward78 , @asmlashae , and I coauthored an Assembly Resolution to recognize this achievement, highlighting the significant work that Chinese School of San Diego has done to ensure that our students have access to culturally relevant education. 🧧
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the women who continually give so much of themselves to their loved ones and everyone around them. Today is about appreciating the incredible women in our lives. 💐
Thank you to SD Nari for having me at your Mother’s Day Glitz and Glam Party. It was not only a beautiful celebration, but also an important recognition of the harsh realities many women face. I am constantly proud of the work you do to ensure that women and mothers have a safe space to turn to.
Thank you @reproforallca for hosting this press conference and creating space to discuss what it truly means to ensure reproductive rights for all. At a time when these rights continue to face attacks across the country, it is more important than ever to have open conversations about access, safety, and equity in women’s healthcare.
It was a pleasure to stand alongside local advocates from San Diego! Together, we will continue protecting reproductive freedom because protecting reproductive freedom means protecting the health, dignity, and autonomy of every person. 💖
