Producer of āTake Care of Mayaā @netflix
Co-Director of āThe Nightmare Upstairs: What Happened to Ty & Brynā @hulu 5/19
On the heels of Take Care of Maya, I found myself drawn even deeper to stories that resist simple answers.
Co-directing The Nightmare Upstairs: What Happened to Ty and Bryn? with Henry Roosevelt was exactly that ā an intimate portrait of a family in crisis, and a larger story about systems, perception, truth, and the gray areas in between.
The two-part documentary premieres May 19 on Hulu. Buckle up.
Full trailer in bio.

Talking gender bias in healthcare, Take Care of Maya, and why Iām drawn to the stories that are the hardest to tell. Grateful to The Female Quotient for the space.

When you get a last-minute invite to host a powerhouse panel at @femalequotient at CES, you say yes.
When the topic stretches you ā even scares you a little ā you still say yes.
When youāre juggling a million projects and unsure how it will all come together, you say yes anyway.
Because every opportunity exists only because you took the last one. Each yes makes you smarter, braver, more grateful, and more fulfilledāand when women say yes, rooms change, and so do the systems built inside them.
Do the things that make you nervous.
Get on the plane.
Lose the sleep.
Walk up to the boss and shake her hand.
Network like there is no tomorrow.
Scare yourself.
Surprise yourself.
@ninafarran thank you so much for introducing me to the one and only @nelldaly . Youāre a force to be reckoned with. I feel lucky to now call you a friend ā and I canāt wait to do this with you again.
Jackie Stevenson and Shi Shi ā the two of you are beyond brilliant and endlessly inspiring.
To every woman I met inside the walls of that special lounge ā and in the bathroom conversations offstage ā thank you for filling me up and somehow sending me home with more energy than I arrived with. In Vegas. @shelleyzalis , thatās a feat in and of itself.
Till next year. š

Zig-zagging 1,250 miles across Utah and Arizona. No agenda. No one in the passenger seat. Speeding to find a signal for my next Zoom call in a gas station parking lot or hotel lobby. Print maps instead of GPS. The scenic route. Always. Welcoming all the emotions that hit me at every sharp turn.
Meeting people who open up knowing theyāll never see me again when they drive back to reality. The divorced woman who fled LA three years ago and still doesnāt know where sheās heading. The tech CEO in Moab who left New York and told me secrets like it was an AA meeting and it had to be kept anonymous. His perfect Southampton tan and a Ford pickup that was trying to make up for something but I didnāt ask what.
Covering so much ground and realizing how much of this beautiful country Iāll never see. Thinking about what Iād lose if my rental car did in fact drive off the cliff. Vistas so beautiful I could cry. Shopping malls so boring I could be anywhere. A James Beard nominated restaurant in a town of 300 people. Driving 100 miles to see a sunset. Missing people and leaving others in the rear view mirror.
Not thinking of the before or the future. Just the present. A much needed reset. Itās wild how much perspective you get being on the road by yourself.
Ending my spontaneous trip with one clear destination: being with family in Flagstaff celebrating the man who taught me all the reasons why you need to press pause sometimes and hit the road.

Thanks, dad. You created a body of work that has inspired so many and will for the rest of time. Thanks to your super āļø wife @carrieboretz whose entire heart went into making this happen, the many other shows that have already passed and all the ones to come. Thanks to @leicagalleryla and @contactpressimages for believing in @ekeats even after he left us.
Except he hasnāt really left. He was, in so many ways, celebrating with us the entire night.
P.S, dad. Thanks for giving us an excuse to jet off to Malibu for the weekend š

Two Emmy nominations. Pinch me.
So grateful for every single person who played a part in making this film. If you spent one hour or five years working on it⦠thank you, thank you, thank you.
So grateful for the Kowalski family and all the other families who had the courage and strength to share their story.
So grateful for those who have come forward since the filmās release and are not afraid to speak their truth.
The story isnāt over.

When my love for broadcast news and my father collide.
Nothing makes me happier than talking about @ekeats and his journey documentating Route 66.
Thanks @carrieboretz for putting in so much care and hard work to make all of these shows happen, and for the @chicagocenter4photojournalism . We couldnāt have come up with a more perfect place to show his work in Chicago.
Next up: @leicagalleryla on November 14th!

I am so grateful to my family and to the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research for spending an entire year preserving my grandfather Alvin Boretzās lifeās work (1919-2010) and legacy. Spanning over 60 years he wrote hundreds of episodes of television and radio. Most notably: Kojak, Dr. Kildare, The Amazing Spider-Man, Treasury Men and Brass Target with Sophia Loren. (He always said she flirted with him on set!)
In a 1985 interview he stated, āWriting is a great responsibility, it should help people see that they are not alone in their problems, that they can survive, and that they must go on. Art is a way out of bewilderment.ā
He never shied away from the hard stuff in life. In fact, he embraced the uncomfortable topics. He was fascinated by humanity, the hardships we face - and what we do with them. His work covered everything from loss, love, mental illness, alcoholism, and disabilities.
Through his writing we saw that sometimes tragedy shows us what weāre capable of and that we donāt have to crumble.
And of course, behind every great man is a great woman. After meeting his wife Lucille (who is turning 104 this July!) at Brooklyn College when he ran to her after she tripped outside of class, he never left her side. It takes a real saint to be married to someone whose highs in their career are at the top of Mount Everest and their lows are down in a ditch during a flood.
Growing up I was so lucky to be able to frequently take a short car or train ride out to their home on Long Island. I would walk into his office as he worked away and remember as a little girl being inspired to be a writer one day just like him.
I might not write screenplays (yet) but I think itās fair to say the apple didnāt fall too far from the tree with me.
The link to the archive that the incredible @samantha_janes15 put together is up in my bio. I hope taking a look at this work inspires you as it has for many.
