We are devastated by this attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego, a house of worship where families gather to pray, learn, and find community. Three people have been killed, and our hearts are with their family and with everyone at the Islamic Center who is living through this nightmare today. No one should fear for their life at their place of worship. We are calling on the San Diego Police Department to investigate this attack thoroughly and to provide the Islamic Center and surrounding Muslim community with the protection and support they need.

An Orange County court judge recently issued a ruling barring Kars4Kids from airing advertisements in California unless the organization discloses its affiliation and geographic ties. Kars4Kids reportedly sends $45 million annually to Oorah, a Jewish nonprofit that organizes gap year trips to Israel for 17- and 18-year-olds. The nonprofit also spent $16.5 million of the funds it received from Kars4Kids to purchase a building in Israel. Swipe ➡️ to read our statement welcoming the ruling.

Take Action: Thank California @rep_kamlagerdove for Denouncing Anti-Muslim Hate During “Sharia-Free America” Hearing   The House Judiciary Subcommittee recently held a hearing with the bigoted objective of preventing the alleged spread of Sharia, or Islamic law, in the U.S.    During the hearing, Rep. Kamlager-Dove denounced it as a politically motivated exercise in anti-Muslim fearmongering. She argued that Republicans were manufacturing a crisis to alienate and scapegoat Muslims during an election year, and that her constituents' real concerns were economic, not the fabricated threat of religious law.   Thank Rep. Kamlager-Dove for her passionate and public stance against anti-Muslim hate and bigotry. Click the link in our bio or visit bit.ly/thank-kamlager-dove to act now.

CAIR-LA welcomed the @cityofpasadena City Council's recent vote in favor of amending a city investment policy to prohibit future investments in companies that manufacture weapons and in private prisons. In a statement, CAIR-LA Senior Policy & Advocacy Manager Aliya Yousufi said: “CAIR-LA commends the city council for having the courage to act and demonstrate what values-aligned governance looks like. We hope city councils across Southern California and beyond will follow Pasadena’s example and ask themselves the same question: Do our investments reflect our values? For the sake of all our communities, the answer must be yes.” Swipe ➡️ to learn more.

Take Action: Thank the OC Board of Supervisors for Standing With Muslim Community Against Hate During a recent Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting, more than a dozen members of the public made inflammatory, anti-Muslim remarks in response to the board recognizing Eid al-Fitr. Speakers also referenced the recent introduction of Assembly Bill 2017, a CAIR California-sponsored legislation to recognize Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as official state holidays. In response, OC Board of Supervisors Chairman @supervisorchaffee , Vice Chair @supervisorfoley , and Supervisor @ocsupsarmiento spoke in support of the Muslim community, emphasizing their positive contributions to the county.
