Being a featured creator and have 5 of my creations in the hallowed galleries of the OMA, next to 15th century paintings, is something I’d never expect to actually happened.

Months ago, Yinan approached me for a little project, and I had an intuition that it’s going to involve Gold House for his part in contributing to Asian-American education entertainment for future generations (I was right).
Over dim sum & noodles, we discussed the silhouette and colors we wanted, general ideas, and logistics that came to the final result.

The outfit was inspired by multiple takes of the hanfu to celebrate Yinan’s Chinese heritage. It was patterned off of old hanfu patterns - I could easily find contemporary patterns, but my intuition stayed with the more traditional one. My mood board included the Tang, Song, & Qing Dynasties for the vibes, not so much historical look (and Alexander Wang x Lady Gaga).

I also took what is considered to be traditional & “traditionally feminine” of Chinese styles and treated them as gender neutral and give it a contemporary take - a qipao/cheongsam silhouette seen only on women, organza, sleeveless, sexy, sequins, and all that jazz. I’ve kept the traditional Chinese satin and buttons to ground it all.
Honestly, the most thank you to Yinan and @emshents for giving me the opportunity to create something for the Gold Gala and be a part of this wonderful quick moment of life. The outfit isn’t conventional, but I just knew this is the style of the Gold Gala that I’ve admired from afar for years. And from the looks at all of the attendees with their outfits and what I’ve been told, ya boi nailed it 😙

The vibes when I was working on this dress, I used to bring in my mannequin & bags/boxes of flowers to work everyday. Every time my coworkers would walk through the door, there’s a whole new section of flowers. And everyone was so in awe of the dress, even when it was in progress, as if Isabela was a Goddess of Flowers herself. Then it was the same thing at home with my roommates 😂. I hope I did Isa right ☺️

When this group happened, it slapped me hard in the face that I manifested a years-long cosplay wish.
Dreamt that one day I will be a part of a cosplay group that’s full of partnership, where everyone (cosplayers, photographer, assistants) knows exactly what they’re doing. There will be full craftsmanship, techniques, different mediums, and it will be cosplays that heavily feature researched cultural/historical fashion inspiration. And here we are 🥹.
