What do you do when the opportunities just aren’t there? You make them yourself. And that’s exactly what @somekindofteam are doing. Here’s our conversation on creating opportunities, breaking away from traditional galleries and honing in on experimental art. We talk about future plans, their debut exhibition No Space, and doing things differently. 🗞️read the full story at upnorf.co.uk 👉 follow @upnorf_ #sheffield #upnorf #artcommunity

- Coming Soon... David Lynch's Eraserhead (1977), presented in 16mm. An original format and audio experience of one of cinema's most unforgettable debut features. Presented in its original aspect ratio - from an original release hard-matted 16mm film print - in full analogue with Monaural sound, as originally intended. The way it was meant to be seen and heard. Set in an unnamed, desolate urban wasteland, Eraserhead follows the toil of shock-haired Henry Spencer, whose bleak existence is made just that much worse when his girlfriend reveals that she has given birth to their "child" - an indescribable, wailing mutant. A dream of dark and troubling things... David Lynch's 1977 debut feature, is both a lasting cult sensation and a work of extraordinary craft and beauty. With its mesmerizing black-and-white photography, evocative sound design and unforgettable central performance, this visionary nocturnal odyssey continues to haunt cinema like no other film. 🗓️ Saturday May 23rd Bank Holiday weekend 8pm at CADS (@cads_sheff ) / Arley Street (S2 4QP) 🎟️ see LINK in our profile bio for tickets. Having also directed several short films (in his lead up to Eraserhead) shot in 16mm, we know Lynch appreciated the format. 📽️ 🎞️ #DavidLynch #Eraserhead #Sheffield #SheffieldEvents #FilmOnFilm

Cracking week of music coming up for ya - here’s the best gigs in Sheffield to head out to this week 🎶✌️ Tuesday ZAWEDDE @theharlequinsheffield @zaweddemusic (prev Philippa Zawe) is a Leeds based singer-songwriter of Ugandan heritage, creating folk-rooted music infused with jazz and soul. Their songwriting draws on inherited memory, political consciousness, and deeply personal storytelling, exploring themes of displacement, grief, healing, and belonging. Support from @jamesewantait Wednesday KO QUARTET @jazzatthelescar @ko.quartet are making waves on the UK jazz scene, performing at Ronnie Scotts, the Royal Albert Hall, the Vortex jazz club, We Out Here festival and not least at 2025 Bath Jazz Weekend where they earned the status of ‘hidden gem’ alongside a host of more established artists. KO Quartet bring new energy straight from the vibrant London jazz scene. Thursday HELLE @sidneyandmatilda Feminist punk fourpiece @hellebandofficial erupted onto the Leeds scene in 2021 in a flurry of blistering riffs, unflinching lyrics and explosive live intensity. Combining soaring vocals and shout-along choruses with hard-edged, grunge-inspired instrumentation, Helle are an irresistible firestorm of grit and glamour that takes no prisoners. Supports from @harlotbandofficial & @cltspit Friday OWEN BLUE @shakespearesshf @owenblue_ is a songwriter, trained mime and insistent logistician of impractical dreams. - Born in Flames (1983), coming soon in its original 16mm format. No algorithm here; a physical film print, hand-picked and curated by human beings, outside of the "traditional" cinema experience. Originally shot in 16mm - and given a Criterion Collection release in 2025 - Born in Flames is the film that rocked the foundations of the 1980s underground. A punk provocation, this DIY vision of female rebellion takes place in America, ten years after a cultural revolution. When Adelaide Norris - the Black radical founder of the Women's Army liberation group - is mysteriously killed, a diverse coalition across all lines - of class, race, and sexual orientation - emerge together to blow the system apart, driven by underground radio DJ's and unfairly dismissed city workers. Filmed guerrilla style in 16mm on the streets of pre-gentrification New York, Born in Flames is even more relevant today; as both an essential document of its time, and radically ahead of it. With its legendary cult status, this challenging film from director Lizzie Borden captures issues of modern life - inequality, workers rights, injustice - through documentary-style camerawork and an evocative soundtrack, this landmark slice of retro-futurism is as entertaining as it is necessary. Presented in its original 16mm format. Saturday April 4th Bank Holiday weekend 8pm @ CADS (@cads_sheff ) / Arley Street (S2 4QP). 🎟️ see LINK in our profile bio for details and tickets. We'll also have a few copies of the Born in Flames graphic novel - courtesy of a friend of Reel Steel - to giveaway to attendees. The book is Kaisa Lassinaro's frame-by-frame graphic recreation of Lizzie Borden's iconic film, and includes an interview with the director. 📽️ 🎞️ #BornInFlames #cultfilm #Sheffield #SheffieldEvents #FilmOnFilm
