LUCY COOK / @lucy__cook Elevator Under” - Oil on Wood Panel - The theme of my work typically explores the relationships between people, places, and objects to form subtle narratives that might unfold within our neglected edgeland and third spaces. I would like to submit a painting of mine called “Elevator Under” as I think this painting could work well with the theme of your “No Space” exhibition. It expresses certain visual aspects of “in-betweeness” and “other space” as it partially represents the loose retelling of memory and the human form in a way that reflects on the tension between belonging and dislocation as well as the humour and horror of unreliable replication which is reminiscent of the uncanny.

What do you do when the opportunities just aren’t there? You make them yourself. And that’s exactly what @somekindofteam are doing. Here’s our conversation on creating opportunities, breaking away from traditional galleries and honing in on experimental art. We talk about future plans, their debut exhibition No Space, and doing things differently. 🗞️read the full story at upnorf.co.uk 👉 follow @upnorf_ #sheffield #upnorf #artcommunity

TAGINDER DHAMI / @tajindersinghdhami “The Bardo” - 2025 Mixed media installation 156x60x121 cm - Tajinder’s practice engages with exotic forms of transcendentalism and spirituality, exploring how these may function and manifest within the work. Exploring points of departure, subtle objects, essences, ascension, and the processes of seeking on a spiritual path encapsulated within the world. This then involves navigating the earthly polarities to spiritual being, visible within divisionalism, and historical hegemonies. The bardo explores the liminal space one may encounter during our lives according to Tibetan scriptures and also demonstrates the false imposed boundaries of nation.

SARAH ATTWOOD / @sarah_attwood “Drop off” - 2025 Pencil drawing on paper 59x84cm - After having my son in 2024 I’ve been exploring the theme of motherhood, using the absence of the child itself as a way of representing motherhood guilt. The ‘negative space’ in my work is the missing child and the emptiness they leave behind.

Artist showcase CORINNE DEAKIN / @narna.lino - I take a gritty, haphazard, DIY approach to my practice which is often coupled with the unsettling and the hyper feminine. There are undertones of body horror, noise, the Avant Garde and pop throughout my work, with mess and play being the forefront. Mixing both organic and colourful synthetics, I like to use materials that are convenient and sourced cheaply, as I bounce from one recession to another, unrecovered, with no closure in sight. Artist showcase DANIIL DANET / @danet_art - His primary artistic mediums include painting and street art. He uses abstraction to merge the realms of the unconscious and the rational in their work. His practice combines narrative, diverse materials, and performative approaches to painting. Additionally, the constant inclusion of objects and their interaction with the surrounding environment ensures the work remains dynamic rather than static. Artist showcase EMILY MCGHIE JACKSON / @emmie.j.arts - A Scottish artist exploring atmosphere and our perception of space, Emily McGhie Jackson blends the line between realities. Taking inspiration from the Scottish landscape and the scripted spaces seen in architecture and video games. Jackson employs exaggerated colour palettes and unconventional viewpoints. Using the immersion of painting to replicate the feeling of mentally occupying one space, whilst physically occupying another. Discover more of Emily’s work at the ‘NO SPACE’ exhibition.

Artist showcase MOLLY WICKET / @mollywickettart - Molly Wickett (she/her) is a British artist who can probably be found reimagining the future and thinking about utopias. She works in sculpture and installation, exploring her practice and research through a queer and disabled lens. She is curious about exploring ecological connection, the relationships with our environment, and between ourselves and our histories. As an autistic artist, her work centres these as a catalyst for forming these connections. Using natural and artificial elements, she builds on disabled, queer, and feminist understandings of time and space as ‘other’. Wickett collapses these into a singular moment. Influenced by crip time and a cognitive disability that affects her concept of time, collection and preservation through her sculpture becomes a way of understanding our current world and building another. Artist showcase STEPHEN CARLEY / @carley.stephen - I’m an Artist / Teacher. My work is completely concerned with context, process and materials. I make paintings, drawings and collages, often on a very large scale. I use the dark room as an experimental space, making camera less imagery and double exposed 35mm. I use Lo-Fi audio techniques collecting field recordings and glitched samples. The audio is filtered, cut up, reconfigured, sequenced and looped. I have often chosen to use ‘poor’ materials – for example, dust, cardboard, chalk on blackboards, lead, chocolate, ashes, water and other stuff. I work with discarded found materials collected between home and studio. I make short films that rely on repetition, loops and repeats. I like to give the viewer / audience / student, room to manoeuvre intellectually. I’m not really interested in simply making work that has to fit on a mantle shelf, an office wall, a stage or a commercial white cube space, however, I am interested in engaging with ideas that subvert or possibly complement those contexts. My work is sometimes intentionally confrontational, sometimes intentionally beautiful. Profanities, congested space, white noise, ugly / beautiful, process led – ‘making a mark’. I try to avoid associations with art HIStory. This is my ‘punk rock’. Discover more of Stephen’s work at the ‘NO SPACE’ exhibition.
