For @oddakorea Issue 9, I had the pleasure of interviewing @bagatiba Creative Director, DJ, Actor, and @euphoria alum @jessieandrews . Icon, legend, the moment, etc! On newsstands now 📰 * Fame is fleeting, or so it’s been said. It’s also an ever-evolving beast and few have mastered the subtle art of reinvention. Enter Jessie Andrews. The 32-year old multihyphenate has lived many lives and her career is one that refuses to be put in one box. Bursting onto the scene with the legendary Portrait of a Call Girl in 2011, Andrews has been a model, deejayed toe-to-toe with Virgil Abloh, appeared in Euphoria and Hot Summer Nights with Timothée Chalamet and is the founder and creative director of It-Girl jewellery favourite Bagatiba, among others. Taking time to chat on a bitterly cold New York Friday, Jessie edifies us on what it means to have cultural relevance today, defying stigma in a tough industry and what’s next for her shapeshifting career. "I think we often struggle with being fully present and embracing the now is really important to me. When I think about cultural influence, it feels like something we lack in a meaningful sense today. MAGGIE MAURER @maggiejoymaurer The artist-muse relationship is as old as art itself, yet today, the passive, gendered connotations of the muse have sparked debate. Runway powerhouse Maggie Maurer prefers the idea of a “conduit” and has been redefining this dynamic since her propulsion into the fashion stratosphere in 2013. She has inspired and taken center stage for fashion’s foremost innovators–think Sonia Rykiel, Nensi Dojaka and Daniel Roseberry, who crafted a solid gold handbag in her image for Schiaparelli Spring/Summer 2022 couture. To the table Maurer brings an ethereal magnetism, raw authenticity and an insatiable drive to push creative boundaries. She views true artistry as a dialogue, one in which she, too, is inspired. We sat down for an open conversation on her journey thus far, being a working mother in fashion, the nebulous nature of the industry, and what it truly means to embody the role of the modern muse. "As a model, you are the vessel for the idea, the vessel for the creation to display what is other people's work. proud to share some words by me in @oddamagazine no. 27, "Walk My Way." HELENA CHRISTENSEN. (@helenachristensen ) Helena Christensen’s love affair with photography began at an early age, traveling around the world during her late teens with only her camera hanging around her neck and the vision to execute her dreams. Then, at the age of 20 in unexpected circumstances, she was afforded the opportunity to venture to Paris and work as a model. It was here that she decided to immerse herself in all that the artistic capital had to offer, giving life in front of the camera while maintaining her exploration behind the lens and learning from the photographers she came into contact with. The fact that she would become a bona-fide supermodel elite and continually one of the world’s most in-demand models along the way, came as nothing but a surprise. By 1992, Christensen had fronted a Chanel campaign, became the first-ever face of Prada and made history in that Versace “bondage” dress. For every runway, campaign and photo-shoot she graced, Christensen became more adept at capturing the world around her, later channeling those lessons learnt into her co-premiership of style bible Nylon in the ‘00s and as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador for photography since 2019. Christensen now performs a balancing act of both, but is at her most creatively satisfied getting lost in a new world. Now, we get lost in her’s.
