In the studio today, my neighbour’s wild, colourfully abstract work reminded me how deeply I rely on structure. It calms me, and it shapes everything I make in an obsessive way. Few things satisfy me like seams aligning just so, in a near militaristic fashion. 🫡
But I envy the makers who create with abandon and freedom. In the new year, I want to loosen my grip a little and work more freely, instinctively, and improvisationally. I think it would be good for the soul, so hold me to it!
