Ok here are the moms of the cast and creative team of @lostboysmusical (including Sho in this because let’s be honest- she’s a mama to all the young ls in the cast and takes damn good care of them). Aren’t they HOT? And POWERFUL??
It was an impossible sacrifice we made over and over again while making this musical, with not enough hours in the day to be able to do our jobs well and also have real consistent time with our babies. But I’m proud as hell of us for what we made, because our kids will have something to point to someday and say “Look! My mama did that! Isn’t she cool?”
We made a show that celebrates the fierce way that mothers love their children, and the messiness and guilt we go through as we try to find ourselves while trying to do right by them. And all the women AND MEN involved in making that story come to life, well, they know what’s up. Lauren, Gwen, Shoshana, Kyler, Ashley, Delaney, Jenna, I’m forever grateful for our raw bitch mom crew. Don’t think I couldn’t have done it without you.
Next catch up post- it MUST be noted that these lost boys ARE ACTUALLY PLAYING THEIR INSTRUMENTS ON STAGE. So many people have asked me this, assuming it wasn’t real- but it is. They hang upside down, fall into a 30 foot deep pit, fly from 60 feet in the air, sing in perfect harmony, have chiseled jaw lines, abs and fabulously sinister vibes, have the sweetest and most humble and hardworking souls, AND they play their instruments on stage every night. Ok so I have been hilariously bad at posting since we got to NYC to mount The Lost Boys. Doesn’t surprise me since before I had West I couldn’t really talk about what it would be like AFTER his birth until after his birth. 😂 So we opened the show last night, and now I have TOO MUCH to say that I’m gonna have to separate this shit out into several posts. The first one is and must be about the Rescues Fam. The sig o’s we were lucky enough to marry have stood beside us these last 4 1/2 years, through all the ups and downs, the, frankly, outtake of income without much intake at all (our mortgages are not small let me tell u), in a brand new industry that none of us knew anything about other than it was a completely new and unknown left turn in our careers, at *ahem* our age. They witnessed and withstood us going back to school, becoming obsessed with a show about vampires, and navigating being in a band pretty much full time after a rather long hiatus. “Everything was fine”. Gabe’s classic line. But now we are in the after, and we made it, even thrived, and our family is more beautiful than I could have imagined. What a gift. And what a gift to have been able to make something that I feel so deeply connected to, and for my wife to not divorce me in the process. It was a real test of true love. And even though she did get a free baby, I think we are even now. ❤️
