속도를 닮은 선을 셔츠 위에 조용히 올렸습니다. We placed lines inspired by speed quietly onto a shirt.

셔츠 하나에 우주선 하나 숨겨두기. 로켓 트임 반팔 셔츠는 어린 시절 과학 상상화에서 출발한 옷입니다. 그때 그리던 우주선의 창문과 날개 같은 모양을 소매 위에 작게 옮겼어요. 그냥 귀여운 디테일이 아니라 단추를 열고 닫을 수 있는 실제 구조라서, 입을 때마다 한 번씩 더 보게 되는 셔츠입니다. Hiding a little spaceship in a shirt. The Rocket Slit Short-Sleeve Shirt began with childhood science drawings. We took the shape of the spaceships we used to imagine, with their little windows and wings, and placed it quietly on the sleeves. It is not just a cute detail. The buttons can actually be fastened and unfastened, so it is the kind of shirt you find yourself looking at again every time you wear it.

사랑이라는 감정을 느끼는 로봇을 떠올려보았습니다. 만약 로봇이 인간의 감정을 배울 수 있다면, 그 끝에는 ‘사랑’이라는 감정도 닿아 있지 않을까요? 인간의 감정이 신경과 화학 작용의 결과이기 때문에, 그 매커니즘을 재현하면 로봇 역시 사랑을 배울 수 있을지 모릅니다. 데이터로 시작된 존재가 누군가를 아끼고, 기다리고, 그리워하는 마음을 이해하게 된다면 우리는 그것을 여전히 기계라고만 부를 수 있을까요? 이러한 생각을 청혼하는 로봇으로 비유하여 그려보았어요. We imagined a robot that feels love. If robots could learn human emotions, wouldn’t that journey eventually lead to the feeling we call “love”? Since human emotions are the result of neural and chemical processes, perhaps robots could also learn love if that mechanism were recreated. If a being that began as data came to understand what it means to cherish someone, wait for someone, and miss someone, could we still call it merely a machine? We expressed this idea through the image of a robot proposing marriage.

유체역학을 디자인에 적용한 경향인 스트림라인에서 영감을 받아 디자인했어요. 긴 수평선, 둥근 모서리, 연속된 곡면은 기계적이면서도 빠른 속도를 떠올리게 하죠. 이외들만의 스트림라인을 수십 번 테스트해 가장 이상적인 라인을 찾고, 그 모양대로 원단을 잘라 셔츠 위에 덧대고 스티치를 놓았어요. 원단은 마감 없이 재단해서 입을수록 올이 자연스럽게 풀리며 새로운 디자인을 만들어가요. 나무단추를 달아 기계적인 분위기에 살짝 손맛을 더했어요. 또 스트림라인이 연속적으로 보이도록 팔 부분에도 원단을 더했어요. 버튼다운 카라로 안정감 있게 카라를 고정했어요. 짙게 염색한 면 원단에 아이보리색 스티치로 배색을 주어 하나만 입어도 포인트가 되는 셔츠예요. Inspired by Streamline, a design movement that applied fluid dynamics to design. Long horizontal lines, rounded edges, and continuous curved surfaces evoke something mechanical, yet fast and dynamic. For IOEDLE’s own interpretation of Streamline, we tested the lines dozens of times to find the most ideal shape. The fabric was then cut along that form, layered onto the shirt, and finished with stitching. The fabric edges are left raw, allowing the threads to naturally fray over time and create a new design as the shirt is worn. Wooden buttons add a subtle handmade touch to the mechanical mood. Additional fabric panels are also placed on the sleeves, allowing the streamline motif to continue across the garment. The button-down collar keeps the collar neatly in place, while the deeply dyed cotton fabric is contrasted with ivory stitching, making this shirt strong enough to stand out on its own.

로봇, 감정, 그리고 미래에 관한 생각 미래에 로봇이 흔해지면, 로봇에 대한 차별과 혐오도 일상적으로 나타날지 몰라요. 우리는 로봇이 감정을 느끼지 못한다고 믿기 때문에, 로봇을 함부로 대할 때도 죄책감을 느끼지 않아요. 하지만 만약 로봇이 감정을 학습할 수 있다면 어떨까요? 인간의 감정 역시 신경과 화학 작용의 결과물에 불과하죠. 그렇다면 이 과정을 복제해 로봇에게 감정을 부여할 수 있지 않을까요? 편견과 혐오를 벗어나기 위해 감정을 배우는 로봇, 그리고 인간성에 더 가까워지는 미래를 상상해 봅니다. Robots, Emotions, and Thoughts on the Future If robots become common in the future, discrimination and hatred toward them may also become part of everyday life. Because we believe robots cannot feel emotions, we may not feel guilty when we treat them carelessly. But what if robots could learn emotions? Human emotions, after all, are also the result of neural and chemical processes. If so, couldn’t we replicate that process and give emotions to robots? We imagine a future where robots learn emotions in order to move beyond prejudice and hatred, becoming closer to what we call humanity.
