Get @reshare_app@sustainablefashionweek_uk In March, we hosted a series of workshops with young people across Bristol as part of our annual Future Citizen campaign. Our ‘How To Dress in A Climate Crisis’ series explored the link between clothing and the climate crisis through discussion on the impacts our everyday clothing choices make on the environment. Each session focused on mending and repair techniques that empowered each student to keep their clothing in use for longer. It was a total joy to work with Saffron Darby @bumbleandbeetle of Bristol Textile Quarter to explore the power of hand sewing techniques and patching as a salve to overconsumption, fashion waste and the beauty of working by hand. If you work with young people, it’s never too early to start thinking about Future Citizen for 2027. You can sign up to our newsletter to keep in the loop and be part of it next year at the link in our bio. #ASingleThread #FutureCitizen #SustainableFashionWeek #SFW2026

There’s something really powerful about not throwing things away… but choosing to care for them instead Our ‘Beauty of Broken Things’ workshop with Saffron of @bumbleandbeetle was exactly that. A day of revival. Of stories. Of slowing down and stitching meaning back into pieces that might once have been forgotten at the back of a wardrobe. Garments with holes, wear, history… gently brought back to life through visible mending. Not hidden. Not disguised. Celebrated. And the irony of this one wasn’t lost on me… Saffron and I first met over 30 years ago studying Fashion Design at @nottinghamtrentuni Life did its thing, as it does, and somewhere along the way we lost touch. But here we were… sat side by side again, stitching, chatting, laughing - reviving not just clothes, but a friendship too ❤️ The stories shared around the table were so special. Every piece carried something personal. Every stitch held intention. And that feeling of connection through cloth, through memory, through making, was just magic. (Also… keep an eye out for the much loved @spillersrecords tee making a comeback 👀 a little piece of history stitched back into the world again.) Beauty in broken things. Everywhere. What a day 🪡 #BethMorrisWorkshops #communityartschool #VisibleMending #MendingMatters #bumbleandbeetle

My #lostjacket as part of the @curtainstocouture project. “A Jacket for Nick Bottom - A Weaver” Wool, vintage French ticking, linen + cotton thread As I checked the pockets of my #lostjacket before initially washing, my hand felt a piece of paper in the inside breast pocket? I pulled it out and unfolded it... There was a sheet of hand written study notes, from Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. A little insight into who had worn it, and the inspiration for my project. I have focused on visible mending techniques and crossstitch to gently adorn the wool herringbone, with the main focus on what you discover inside the jacket - A snippet of the famous quote from the play; I have had a dream Past the wit of man to say what dream it was

It’s been a pleasure collaborating with @sustainablefashionweek_uk to lead a series of workshops to teach young people how they can fashion action through simple sewing and mending skills. The sessions explored how we can rethink fashion through rewearing, reusing, repairing and repurposing the clothes we already have, giving old materials new life while learning about the environmental impact of the clothing industry. Thank you to everyone who got involved 🙏🏼 #futurecitizen #meetmakemend #climateaction #visiblemending #workshop

London Peeps! I’m doing a visible mending workshop on Saturday 28 March 10.00am - 1.00pm Visible Mending is the textile equivalent of #kintsugi —a technique that highlights rather than hides wear and damage, turning repair into an act of care and creativity. Instead of discarding broken items, mending brings new life and value to the things we love. Led by Saffron Darby, founder of #meetmakemend, this workshop invites you to slow down, stitch, and restore your worn textiles in a relaxing environment. No experience necessary, there will be plenty of resources and equipment for you. Book your spot via link in Bio. #workshop #london #visiblemending

New Workshop Alert! I am so thrilled to be returning to @stradlingcollection for another evening of visible mending. Visible Mending: The Beauty of Broken Things Thu 12 Mar 2026 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM 📍The Stradling Collection, BS1 5LH Led by Saffron Darby, founder of Meet Make Mend, this workshop invites you to slow down, stitch, and learn how to restore your worn textiles in a welcoming and social environment - Meet Make Mend was a regular mending collective held at @bristoltextilequarter from 2019 till the space closed in 2025. In Japanese culture, Kintsugi is the ancient art of repairing broken pottery, transforming fractures into golden seams that symbolize strength, beauty, and fragility. This practice is part of the Wabi-Sabi aesthetic—embracing imperfection, impermanence, and the passage of time. Visible Mending is the textile equivalent of Kintsugi—a technique that highlights rather than hides wear and damage, turning repair into an act of care and creativity. Instead of discarding broken items, mending brings new life and value to the things we love.
