The Better Building by Design,
@efficiencyvt annual conference was a powerful reminder that resilient companies are built through more than technical expertise alone. Strong businesses are shaped by leadership, communication, culture, systems, and the way people work together.
This week, the HELM Construction Solutions team had the opportunity to connect with builders, architects, engineers, and energy nerds around the future of the construction industry and what sustainable growth really requires.
A highlight of the conference
@buildhelm members Will and Lina’s interactive session exploring how gender-inclusive teams strengthen jobsite culture, improve retention, and elevate the quality of work. Through real-world examples and discussion, the session focused on practical strategies companies can use to foster belonging and build stronger, healthier teams across the trades.
Mel also participated in a panel discussion focused on workforce resilience and retention, including how affinity spaces and supportive workplace cultures can help address isolation and strengthen long-term retention for women, trans & non-binary folks, people of color, those in recovery and others in the trades.
Grateful for the conversations and connections throughout the week, including time spent with teams pictured above from Grendel Productions, Han Hewn, Lewis Creek Builders, Habitat for Humanity, and many others.
Some recurring themes we heard throughout the week:
• Clarity creates momentum
• Strong systems support strong teams
• Inclusion strengthens resilience
• Sustainable growth requires intention, not just speed
We’re leaving the conference energized by the conversations, inspired by the people doing the work, and grateful to be part of an industry focused on building better businesses alongside better projects.
