We want to give a huge shout out to the mentors who really showed up for this event. The young people had the chance to connect with people who look like them, share similar stories, and come from neighborhoods just like theirs, and that kind of representation really matters.
Our mentors came from all walks of life. We had professionals working in executive offices, finance, media, documentary creators with projects on Netflix, professional and collegiate athletes. It was powerful for our youth to see what’s possible.
We’re especially proud of the turnout. Our original goal was one mentor for every five youth, but we exceeded that with 22 mentors showing up for 34 young people. Not all are pictured, but every single one made an impact. (Thank you @nbafoundation@bostonohs@team_mr8 )
This past Saturday’s event was amazing. The community really came together for our young people.
34 youth and 22 mentors showed up to connect and have real conversations about careers in sports that go beyond playing the game. It meant so much for the youth to see mentors who look like them and share similar stories.
Thank you to @bostoncollege for not just providing the space but for welcoming us and allowing the youth to truly be themselves. We are so grateful.
And thank you to all the volunteers who came out. We had more volunteers than tasks, which just shows how much people care and are willing to show up for our young people.
