We recently visited the @meridiansculpture workshop to view artist @yhonniescarce ’s upcoming commission for @mirvac_group ’s 55 Pitt Street in Sydney. As a tribute to the pre-colonial condition of the Tank Stream – which once flowed through the 55 Pitt Street site – this site-specific brass sculpture by Yhonnie Scarce is a symbolic reinstatement of the Swamp Sheoak (casuarina glauca) back into the 55 Pitt Street ground plane. This sculpture acknowledges the history of Sydney’s lost flora and builds on the story of the native landscape of Gadigal Country.

Pankalangu Armchair Designer Trent Jansen first encountered the Pankalangu over conversation with Western Arrernte elder Baden Williams. A creature entirely camouflaged in desert scrub, the Pankalangu can only move with rain, its form revealed only when water running across its scales catches the light, defining its form as a glistening silhouette. The Pankalangu Armchair (2017) is part of Jansen’s Broached Monsters collection. Before colonisation, Australia existed in the northern hemisphere imagination as a vast, unknown landmass, its interior populated by fabulous creatures of incredible proportions and improbable anatomy. When early British colonists began to learn of the frightful monsters of Aboriginal folklore, that fear that lurked in the unknown bush became a point of cultural confluence for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. Tasmanian wallaby pelt, plywood, copper, stainless steel, French leather, polyurethane foam. Edition of 3 Designer: @trentjansenstudio

In the library of VMCH’s St Clare Kew precinct sits an antique Sammelband of Roman churches, engraved plates gathered across centuries, from devotional surveys of the 1650s to early 19th-century lithographs. A devotional record, it reflects the intertwined histories of faith, art, and intellectual possession that shaped Europe’s visual culture. For this commission, we invited artist John Warwicker to open it. Working from scans of the book’s pages, Warwicker built a series of large-format prints that fold the original architectural drawings into a bricolage with the formal and figurative imagery of the period. The works retain the scholarly rigour of the original plates while enacting a creative, almost theatrical, interrogation of architectural and artistic lineage. John’s prints populate the hallways of the residents’ buildings, spaces that all invariably connect back to St Clare’s library, and the book it contains. Broached’s VIP Lounge for @melbourneartfair was conceived as a room apart; somewhere to breathe and be still among the energy of a fair. We curated a show spanning three centuries, from Barbara Dietzsch in the 1760s to Sofia Crespo working today, and the many remarkable voices in between. These artworks sat amongst Hattie Molloy’s floral installation, grown from seed in a greenhouse, carefully nurtured with the support of @superbloomau . Art and nature were equal, neither dominated the other. This was all made possible by the vision, generosity, support and technical skill of the Melbourne Art Fair team and board. Truly a wonderful organisation to work with. We’re so proud of what this space became, and we’re already dreaming up something entirely new for Melbourne Art Fair 2027. More soon. Objects carry memory. Spaces hold feeling. Comfort lives somewhere in between. As part of K5’s 25th anniversary celebrations at Melbourne Art Fair, we gathered in the @broached_commissions designed VIP Lounge for a conversation exploring the many forms of comfort - from inherited objects and personal rituals to the quiet influence of place and material. With @aliceblackwood in conversation with Erna Walsh, Helen Kontouris, Lou Weis, Lincoln Perdrisat and Dr Lisa Dethridge. A glimpse into the evening. Our VIP garden lounge for @melbourneartfair … more documentation to come, but here are some happy snaps of how we brought together @hattiemolloy , @kfivefurniture , @bangolufsen and women artists from 1765 to 2025 to create a grounded, beautifully-scented space to decompress within the Fair. 2: Delphinium, 1765, by Barbara Regina Dietzsch. HATTIE MOLLOY X BROACHED X MAF Hattie Molloy does amazing work, and we are so grateful she has been a long-time friend of Broached. The conceptualising of the flowering meadow within Melbourne Art Fair’s VIP Lounge was a vision Hattie has transformed into a tactile, beautiful reality. Cultivated from seed in October 2025, the work has been carefully curated to intermingle with the art and guests of the lounge. But this nature is being installed in a conditioned metaphorical desert that is the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Hattie’s design places nature, which gives oxygen, in a space that cannot reciprocate life. We are watching plants in a state of suspended animation; a poignant reminder of mortality and the fleeting nature of beauty, which we constantly curate for our own equally fleeting pleasures. Concept and design by @hattiemolloy with growing support from @superbloomau Photos by Phillip Huynh @afloralfrenzy ART FAIR: FEB 19 - 22. Tickets at link in bio.
