It is with deep sadness that we reflect on the passing of John McKenna ā a truly exceptional CFO, colleague, and friend to so many atĀ VMCH.
Ā
John served as VMCHās CFO from 2015-2020. He was far more than a highly respected financial leader. He brought compassion, humanity, and heart into every aspect of his work. He cared deeply for the people around him and for the mission of the organization, always ensuring that decisions were grounded not only in good governance, but in kindness and understanding.
Ā
He was generous with his time, supportive of his staff, and deeply committed to helping others succeed. John had a rare ability to bring the human element into the workplace ā making people feel valued, heard, and cared for. He looked after his team with genuine compassion and created an environment where people felt supported and encouraged.
Ā
At the same time, Johnās warmth, humor, and sense of fun brought joy to those fortunate enough to work alongside him. He knew how to lighten a room with a laugh, keep perspective during difficult moments, and remind us not to take ourselves too seriously. His ability to balance professionalism with authenticity was one of the many reasons he was so admired.
Ā
John was also deeply respected for the way he managed relationships with the Board and across the organization, always with integrity, wisdom, and grace. He earned the trust and admiration of colleagues at every level.
Ā
He was a very loved and admired member of the VMCH community, and his passing leaves an enormous void. We are profoundly saddened by the loss of someone who meant so much to so many. John will be remembered not only for his leadership and capability, but for his kindness, humor, compassion, and the lasting impact he had on everyone privileged to know and work with him.
Ā
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who treasured their time with him.
Weāre proud to share that our partnership with Mannix College has been recognised on the international stage at the Asia-Pacific Student Accommodation Association (APSAA) Excellence Awards.
Our intergenerational volunteer program, Mannix Young Hearts, was awarded āBest Student Experience Programā, a testament to the meaningful connections it creates between generations.
Since launching in September 2024, Mannix Young Hearts has brought Mannix College students together with residents at VMCH Corpus Christi aged care through shared experiences in music, art, exercise and technology.
Thank you to APSAA for this recognition, and to the incredible students and residents who are at the heart of this partnership.

Staff and students returned to school last week to several refreshed spaces, including playground areas, the library (more to come on this!), and the resources room.
A highlight is this stunning new mural, with the design selected by students and painted by local mural artist Damian Cazaly.
