We’re excited to welcome Andrew Brobst to the Accion Latina team as our Marketing and Production Specialist! 🌟 Andrew is a Filipino American photographer, producer, journalist, and organizer born and raised in San Francisco’s Mission District. He studied Political Science and Communications at San Francisco State, and his work has always been rooted in community, covering local culture, politics, and stories that often go overlooked. Whether he’s shooting or writing, Andrew’s focus is always to tell real stories about real people. Andrew’s dedication to community storytelling aligns perfectly with our mission, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him on board. Photo: Erika Carlos @eltecolotesf

The Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts remains closed, but community members are still fighting to keep one of the Mission’s most important cultural institutions alive. This week, organizers met at Gray Area Theater and shared updates on audits, fundraising efforts, reopening plans, and the long road ahead. Founded in 1977, MCCLA has served generations of muralists, dancers, printmakers, musicians, and political artists from San Francisco’s Latino community. Ahead lies a challenging retrofitting project, meaning the center will eventually need to find a temporary home for several years while the building undergoes major work. For many in the Mission, this goes far beyond the building itself. The MCCLA represents cultural memory, political movements, and institutions that helped shape the neighborhood itself. ✍️🎥 Andrew Brobst @bro_bst #SanFrancisco #bayarea #news #sf #mission

My dad used to bring my brother and I to these courts at the Potrero Hill Rec when we were like four years old. Back then, I used to make up rules like letting the ball bounce twice before I hit it. There’s something beautiful about growing up on public courts in San Francisco. Kids learning for the first time, old heads who’ve been playing for decades, people catting off from work instead of a lunch break, court bullies who need 10 more minutes. From the outside, tennis can feel expensive and reserved for a certain kind of person, but it doesn’t have to be. If it weren’t for free programs like Youth Tennis Advantage out of Mission Playground, tennis probably wouldn’t be in my life today. It’s also a big reason why I put work into the Mission Athletic Club with Prince and a solid crew of people who believe in free, low-barrier access to tennis and to a community. It’s really cool getting older, playing on the same courts and watching that door open for other people, too. Special thanks to @pablounzueta_ for the photos and hit 🫰🏼

Around 60 people packed into 2070 Mission Street on Tuesday night for a town hall hosted by the People’s Budget Coalition. The conversation centered on Daniel Lurie’s proposed budget cuts hitting low-income communities and whether the city is choosing cuts over new revenue. With the June 1st budget deadline approaching, expect more of these conversations across San Francisco. 🎤🎥 Andrew Brobst @bro_bst #sanfrancisco #bayarea #news #sf

Landlords shouldn’t be able to keep apartments empty while waiting for rents to rise, especially when so many people in San Francisco need housing. In 2022, San Francisco voters passed the Empty Homes Tax to discourage unit hoarding by taxing owners and encouraging them to put those homes back on the market. At the time, there were over 40,000 vacant units of housing in San Francisco. After the tax passed, real-estate interests responded by suing the City, fighting for their ability to control the rental market and keep the city unaffordable.

February in San Francisco was a lot. Super Bowl money, packed event calendars, headlines about whether the city is “back.” And to top it all off, the biggest R&B and Ribs to date. A San Francisco-born party that’s grown across states and internationally, now filling warehouses with Bay Area millennials screaming every word to T-Pain and Sean Paul. This was definitely a millennial’s Super Bowl. 🎤🎥: Andrew Brobst @bro_bst #sanfrancisco #bayarea #sf

After nearly a year of stalled negotiations, San Francisco teachers said enough is enough. Represented by United Educators of San Francisco, organizers rejected Mayor Daniel Lurie’s last-minute request for a 72-hour delay and walked out on Monday. Picket lines commenced at 7AM, and thousands packed Civic Center at 1 PM as classrooms went dark and the strike officially kicked off. 🎤: Andrew Brobst, Tim Redmond 🎥: Andrew Brobst, Eddy Hernandez #sanfrancisco #bayarea #news #sf

Big Game, Bigger Brands. The city feels alive right now—which is important. But so is who benefits, who gets pushed out, and who gets paid. My latest from the Super Bowl Experience for @48hills . 🎤🎥: Andrew Brobst @bro_bst #sanfrancisco #bayarea #sf #news #nfl

ICE OUT: Voices from SF’s day of action (Part 2) On Friday, thousands gathered at Dolores Park in San Francisco as part of a nationwide protest against ICE violence sparked by recent fatal federal enforcement actions in Minneapolis and beyond. We sent Reporter/Producer Andrew Brobst to ask people in the crowd what they think about Mayor Daniel Lurie’s response to ICE activity in San Francisco and across the country, and to share what San Franciscans are feeling about leadership and accountability in this moment. 🎤: Andrew Brobst 🎥: Andrew Brobst (@bro_bst ) & Eddy Hernandez (@eddywashere ) #sanfrancisco #bayarea #news #sf #politics
