New EP is out today!
It has been an absolute pleasure to work with
@wallisbirdofficial and we are super happy to share these tunes with you!
And here are some more insights about the music and the collaboration from
@luisevolkmann :
Their Quotes and How They Twist Them is a song that asks how we can actually come together in a time marked by so much social tension—and, above all, what role language plays in that.
Because language is so often packed with quotes and hidden references we sometimes repeat without even noticing. In the song it’s about taking those quotes back, reshaping them, and finding our own voice through music—a place where community can grow.
In a way, the piece also mirrors how Wallis, the band, and I got to know each other, how we found common ground and made this really powerful song from it.
It’s very close to my heart. It’s subtle, but it still speaks to our political climate. It moves you—and that’s the beautiful mix music can hold.
Chorale, my quiet Pal doesn’t have any lyrics, but it’s full of stories and feelings. The way it moves from one emotion to the next feels so intense to me, and it became the perfect contrast to the other song, which is so text-heavy.
Working on it in the studio felt magical. We had a conductor with us who helped shape the ensemble into this chamber-music constellation. And Wallis did an incredible final take—she absolutely set the room on fire.
With this piece, what really matters to me is letting the voice of each of the 14 ensemble members be heard—their political voice, woven into a collective sound. When you can get an ensemble to breathe together like that, even without a fixed drum groove, it’s unbelievably powerful. Even without words. Even for someone who can’t speak right now.
