Ok, what was I proud of this year? 🤔 2025 was another good year all in all. Every year I feel lucky and grateful for the people around me, people who don't mind hearing me whinge and whine on, people who I feel lucky to share with, and all the good times that come from it.
However, I picked going freelance and running my first (official) full marathon as two key moments I was most proud of.
Running has always been a big part of keeping myself (mostly) sane. I enjoy it more than most other things, being outdoors, just letting the body do it's thing and training myself to overcome the overbearing voice of doubt that had always plagued me. I have run marathons before, but this first official one was a big deal for me personally, and finishing it in 3:13... I dunno, just didn't think it was possible for someone like me.
Going freelance... Well, I'm hopeful it's a step that's taking me closer to the life I want. Where I can meet new people, find new opportunities, make more stuff I wanna make, and become a better (read: good) artist.

Earlier in the year Liz, Derek, Gareth and I did a talk on behalf of @buck_design for some uni students.
It was about working in ✨️ t h e i n d u s t r y ✨️
And my part was about how to keep a healthy work life balance and not let you become your work especially when things don't go your way.
Here's a snippet of a comic I made for it! I wonder if the message communicated... 🤔 Probably not! Still fun though.

I don't want to be made to feel bad by some society destroying tech weirdos, by sharing something I want to share cos I think it's fun and neat, even if it doesn't fit the bullshit mould of "make sure all you ever make is a 10 second video of someone getting slapped or cooking badly on purpose with a robot voice narrating over the top. Oh and pleeeease make it AI please please pleeease"

🌞 Hey everyone! 👋
I foolishly 🫠 left my full-time job at @buck_design to pull the rug and try new things, so I'm freelance now. When I was just an animator I would make a showreel, but that didn't seem right this time. 🤔
I'm extremely emotional about the decision to leave cos I'll miss seeing everyone, but after careful consideration it felt like the right move. I'm optimistic about what happens next... And working with you on something new! 🤠
Of course a lot of these projects featured were done by a team, so big ups to everyone I had the opportunity to work with and those that guided me. 🫡

First up, the hardworking crew and collaborators of Big Mix 2025! 🥳🥳🥳
@bpembs@dereklaudesign@wilton.anim and @faux_par first started Big Mix as a sneaky way to get together and share their films with mates.
One of these mates is @muftidays
whose warm-up acts leave us in stitches; a fine line between genius and chaos. 🎭
While we're still a bit scrappy, we've managed to clean up our look this year with a fun visual identity designed by @melissa__ya and a much-requested program by @gracehmurray 👽👽👽
And finally, our friends and family manning the merch table to satisfy the people hungry for Big Mix goods.
We couldn't be prouder of them and the animation community for making this happen! 😭😭😭
