turns out, i come from a long line of people who look up.
my grandfather painted ecclesiastical murals in poland and this project felt like i was having a quiet conversation with him. not quite a cathedral but painted with a similar reverence + care.
i’m stupidly proud of this piece + especially grateful to the women who trusted me with their space.

last october @overallcreative had a 6am safety meeting that involved a few laughing fits, judgements on footwear + a freight elevator line that rivaled a 2001 black friday sale at macy’s. video of the finished mural in a very unfinished kitchenette, me squeezing myself between ductwork and a quick snap loading out. i can reliably pull clean lines, i can less reliably document the work.

this mural was painted in what can only be described as a cave crossed with a sinkhole—a place where light goes to die and cell reception is just folklore. big ups to @wiseknave who risked his drone in the world’s tiniest courtyard to capture what he could. the rest of the photos are from my sad attempts at capturing the reflections in april, when @kathleenfwarren and I spent our days squinting at the wall and muttering things like, “I cannot believe you can’t see any of the colors from the ground.”
you’ll never see the whole thing (none of us have), but if you’re desperate for a peek at a few crisp lines, book yourself a courtyard room at @citizenm in #PioneerSquare. ask for the one with a view of a very large, hot pink, crosshatched fern. that and the slow fade down the wall? wooooweeee baby!
