Take us back to spending an entire Saturday reading each others’ work 📝The WORDS cohort, part of our SKILL BUILDING COHORTS, focuses on creative writing and encourages students to explore short fiction, personal essay, and poetry. Most of all, we practice the writing workshop method: 1) read the work 2) offer a quick response on the work (gut reaction) 3) discuss the work as the writer stays silent 4) give the writer a chance to ask questions of the reader. It’s a simple process, but the results are deep. We recognize our specific voice and learn to respond to others’ writing from a place of authenticity. If this kind of program interests you, and you’re a Portlander between the ages of 14-18, consider applying! Applications close August 1 (link in bio).
Last Saturday, we celebrated our third year of Skill Building Cohorts. Over 30 students in VISUALS, WORDS, and SOUNDS shared their work with their friends and families. The space was alive with energy and art. Huge thanks to everyone who made it happen—the students, their families, their teachers. Let’s keep making art! Let’s keep collaborating! (In fact! Applications for next year’s cohorts are open NOW until Aug 1!!) Find the link in bio.
Yesterday, we celebrated our closing showcase, marking the culmination of eight months of creative expression and growth. We are incredibly proud of our cohort's tremendous talent and the dedication they have shown throughout the program.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating their achievements.

Once again, we are so happy to be working with @mullowneyprinting to bring to high school students a FREE 5-day workshop, August 3-7. Students will work with Mullowney Printing master printers and assistants on self directed projects exploring traditional printmaking methods of relief, intaglio and letterpress printing, The workshop will explore the techniques of copper plate intaglio etching, a process employed by artists since the 15th century, known for its beautiful line quality and rich tonal range, as well as traditional relief printing processes of woodcut and linoleum cut. Also students will also be introduced to traditional letterpress printing with relief blocks and moveable type to create broadsides and posters. Space is limited. APPLY at the WORKSHOPS link in bio.
