I started this piece two years ago almost to the day in my very first studio as a part of an homage series to my younger self and childhood house, both spaces whose rooms I could only seem to wander while asleep at night. And then I put it down and neatly folded the loose cotton because I didn’t feel ready to finish it, not really knowing what ready meant or would look like, but the door had heavy hinges (and it wasn’t gross, just dirty). Last week I woke up and I knew it was time to paint the rest of the dishes on the table – let further and closer memories simmer and salud with the ongoing. A reminder that disassembling and building follow similar structures involving a little bit of patience and a lot of due time – oh boy. Now I’m maybe more ready and definitely excited to explore the other rooms in the house … I think maybe soon? Today is in fact the final and free day of the LA @printedmatter_artbookfairs and I do in fact love LA and we did in fact drive straight here, tiles packed, paper nearly leaked on from our “cooler bag”, taillights hanging on by threads and now duct tape, dearest friends showing up left and right. LA! Addie and I drove down to you this weekend for @printedmatter_artbookfairs with 1 new magazine, 5 new publications, 1 new card game, 1 new shirt design (and a slew of prints) from years of work but actually, really, only a month and a half of production… we’re going to have so much fun (and have been). I was given the gift of new colors from @laurasanherr_art :,) Now I’m learning a side of the places I’m visiting that I wasn’t expecting… so very lucky to be discovering the joy of a medium that sticks to my fingers in a way I haven’t known … there’s always more !!
