I’m very happy to share that on Wednesdays I’m teaching at the Abendakademie at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig. It’s a new path for me.I ’m learning a lot and really enjoying the exchange with my group of 20 people.
For this course, I’ve invited Lea Petry, Esraa Dayrwan, Genesis Kahveci, Bob Jones, and Dimitrios Mavroudis to share different perspectives on self-portrait practice: from violence in the gaze and the objectification of bodies, especially those perceived as feminine to non-hegemonic bodies and queer identities. We will also reflect on migration, shared spaces, and the intimate nature of self-portraiture, while exploring it as a space for empowerment and critical thinking.
I’ll be sharing a series of posts to introduce each of the guest artists and their work.
Here’s a sneak peek of some of the literature shaping the course.

A media-referential, para-philosophical, (tediously but organically) author-embodying piece of writing, retrospectively conjuring up a decade of portraiture obsession and theoretically grounded in an academically limited understanding of subject theory. Grateful for the potentialities of future (co-)writing as well as research-based artistic explorations that the text and its methodical and thematic limitations continues to incite! 🔥
Between Marcia’s medieval “self”-portrait, 1960s performance art and contemporary AI-mediated selfhood in sex robotics, the text contemplates the intersection of image practices, technological mediation and the formation of embodied subjectivity in self-imag(in)ing homing in on gaze, performativity and surveillance.
💯 human-authored.
