“Who Are You People” is out today. I’m so proud of what we were able to accomplish.
I’m especially grateful for my 2nd time collaborating with our Portland crew, led by Nico Wachter (@nicowphoto ) as well as Steadicam operator Sam Naiman (@thunderpine ).
I also cherish the memories made with my producers Jordan Foley (@jpf_insta ) & Toby Louie (@tobiaslei ). And finally, getting the chance to team up once more with my director Ben Epstein (@benmepstein ) was a truly special honor.
Tomorrow is the release of our movie “Who Are You People”. I wanted to share some of the process I explored in developing the look for this film.
During prep, I was inspired by Steve Yedlin's (@steveyedlin ) self-published essays and videos on color science and #NerdyFilmTechStuff. I was fascinated by the exacting degree to which he debunks a lot of weirdly persistent cinematography myths. Because of what he shares on his website yedlin.net, I was compelled to embark on a quest of designing LUTs of my own for display prep during production.
I ended up designing 4 different looks as if I were “loading different film stocks” into the camera, and it gave Ben and I the chance to see, up front, my intentions for post. We had set out to create a look that evoked older photographs we both referenced.
After wrapping, I had the pleasure of grading the film myself. Here’s some examples of Alyssa in different environments to demonstrate a variety of looks in different contexts.
In addition to Ema Horvath (@mhlnhrvth ), we were graced with the talents of Alyssa Milano (milano_alyssa), Devon Sawa (@d.sawa ), John Ales (@jackassdog ), & Yeardley Smith (@yeardley_smith )
It was an absolute privilege to capture their incredible performances.
Meet Alex.
She’s played by the incredible @mhlnhrvth and she’s the main character of our feature coming February 24th to select cinemas and VOD. It’s called “Who Are You People” and it’s been waiting all pandemic to come out to the world.
More posts to come..
VFX & Mummy Appreciation Post:
The physical comedy of #UnderWraps2 wouldn’t have been possible without our hero mummies and villains played by:
@phil_wright_@rryla@stormzeye@loljordancon1ey
Phil choreographed the video game dance sequence in the middle of the film, so we effectively got to shoot a music video!
There are also a flurry of visual enhancements created for the world of #UnderWraps2. Jason Dowdeswell & Henrique Reginato were critical throughout production helping us make informed and efficient decisions all the way to the finish line.
Take a look at all their work in this carousel.
