The day we met you waddled over to me and laid at my feet and I knew you were the one. You slept on my lap the whole ride home and I immediately fell in love. You were more than a dog, you were my best friend, my favorite surfing buddy, the best surf camp counselor, and the one I turned to when I needed a smile. You were the sweetest boy, and made everyone love you in an instant. You had a mischievous phase when you learned to open the door at @ohana_surf_shop , but you just wanted to go play in the mud and adventure. You were the best surfing dog of all time. There’s video proof somewhere on Jordan’s phone of you getting barreled in windchop shorebreak. You were always a reminder to me that life can be simple, easy, and carefree. Give you a coconut and a cool patch of grass and all was right in the world. You will be missed by everyone who met you, and they all have a Finley tale to tell. Im going to miss you forever turtle dove. I love you so much. Life will be different without you, but I know I won’t ever truly be without you. My heart will always carry your spirit, you sweet demeanor, and your love for every moment. I’ll miss you so much best friend. Love you
Can’t believe it’s been four years. Four years of pulling in my driveway after work and not waiting on my tailgate for you to pull up. Four years of not hearing another silly dad joke. Four years of you not telling me to roll up my water hose. Four years of missing you making sure you called or checked on me every day. I miss you so much dad. But I still hear you in my thoughts, still feel your warmth in my heart. You thought me so much. So I’ll share four simple lessons you taught me. #1 don’t stop being a kid at heart. #2 don’t burn bridges, you never know when you may need to cross them again in the future. #3 stand up for what you are, and don’t change to please anyone. #4 push that pedal to the floor and let it rip. Love you so much dad. Miss you like crazy. Thank you for always being there for me. I sat on your bench overlooking the river for the fourth year in a row, and I felt you there with me. And I’m so happy we were able to laugh together at the boat running aground on the sandbar.
Happy birthday dad. I miss you so much. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of you. It’s funny but when I think to myself, many of the answers come back in your voice. You showed me that it doesn’t take selfishness to be successful. You came from a war torn Germany at 15 alone and without a proper education. You made friends almost immediately, and you kept that friendship till you passed. That is a testament to your character. Everyone you met remembered/remembers you, and every single one of them has only good memories of you. You were headstrong, stubborn, and a great businessman. But you never let that outdo the kindness you showed to others. Times have changed, but the way you inspired me to live my life never will. I miss you so much. I love you so much, and hear you and feel you in my life every day. I know you are probably racing cars on a frozen lake right now, or sailing through a horrific storm with an ear to ear smile. I cherish your grit, acceptance of the unknown, and determination to come out on top. I hope you can look down and be proud of the man I am becoming.
