Tucked away amongst the native trees of Deanbilla Bay, Gumpi (Dunwich) on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), sits the Quandamooka Arts and Culture Centre (QUAMPI). QUAMPI is a First Nations–owned and operated facility that celebrates Quandamooka art, culture, and storytelling.
Bligh Tanner is proud to have delivered this striking new community hub in collaboration with the Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC), COX Architecture, JHA Services Engineers, and QBuild. In recognition of First Nations Peoples’ deep connection to Country, the design places a strong emphasis on incorporating locally sourced materials into the building fabric. Local sands and oyster shells have been engineered into the distinctive rammed earth walls, while locally sourced timbers are woven through the façade of the “Elders Space and Community Circle.” Together, these elements reflect a technical approach grounded in a meaningful connection to Country.
More than just a gallery, QUAMPI is a cultural hub featuring a range of art exhibitions, workshops, performance spaces, an Elders Space, a café, and a gallery shop. It brings together contemporary design thinking with culture, place, and knowledge sharing, creating a welcoming place for both the local community and visitors.
