At the height of last summer, Factory Floor dropped their second single in eight years, with ‘Tell Me’ for PH146.
Having been road tested in their legendary live sets in the run up to the official release, the track is an amalgamation of all things great about the band.
It’s their live energy that really brings this to life. As one attendee noted, “there is an oppressive post-punk half-life in the otherwise high-energy thrumming of Factory Floor. Their recent release, ‘Tell Me’ feels like walking quickly but not quite running through a crumbling concrete industrial estate, where you are at once advancing towards something you want and escaping from something you fear.”
The original version gives precedence to “their nagging guitar chops, vox and textured dubbing, whereas the XL version brings up the bassline and drums in the mix for firmer ‘floor traction, each benefitting from Stephen Morris’ (New Order) studio mixing suss.” - Boomkat
The attendee’s diary duly concludes:
“When their set ends, the band exits the stage swiftly, giving a nonchalant wave of thanks to an effusively loud crowd. Like a sailor disembarking after months at sea, I have to remind myself to stop swaying to music that is no longer there. - Hana Sakurai Wernham (Electronic Sound)
