From Wet Leg forming on our Ferris Wheel and boygenius making their global debut in the forest, to Perfume Genius evolving from a quiet discovery into an icon on our stages over the years, or Arlo Parks stunning the Garden pre-Mercury Prize - it all starts with intimate crowds witnessing the beginning of something massive at Larmer Tree. End of the Road, which is celebrating its 20th edition this year, is excited to spotlight visionary artists early on and as part of the @aif_uk “First Festival” initiative, proud to highlight this week the vital role independent festivals play as the essential pipeline for the stars of tomorrow. Were we your first festival? Let us know in the comments. 👇

Meet Your Next Wave Winners for 2026 From the digital-age emo-pop of multiscreen and the queer tenderness of Al Cologne to the elusive, genre-blurring haziness of Bug Teeth and the avant-folk textures of Perfect Binding—we’ve selected four artists who stopped us in our tracks and left a mark we couldn’t ignore. We’re excited to host them across various stages at this year’s festival. To everyone who entered: Thank you. We listened to every single submission and were genuinely blown away by the depth of talent and effort.

Closing out Best Fit's secret sessions at last year's @endoftheroad Festival, mellow-voiced Georgia-born folk artist Jake Xerxes Fussell (@jxfussell ) gave one of the weekend's most affecting performances which included a cover of "I Love The Sound Of Breaking Glass". The song – which was made-up in the studio before being released on Nick Lowe’s debut solo record Jesus is Cool in 1978 was one of the beloved songwriter’s most well-known although he rarely performed it live, claiming that, “It's a really good record, but there's not actually any song there. It was a half-baked idea I had when I went to the studio, and the bass player and drummer sort of put a little sauce in it… There really isn't anything to it.” The @fatpossum --signed Fussell – who last year collaborated on the score for the Josh O’Connor-starring neo Western Rebuilding – has just kicked off a string of May tour dates this month in the US and heads over to the UK this autumn, with a headline show in London on 14 October. Fussell's cover was part of a secret session for Best Fit's at September's End of the Road, which also saw pop-up sets from The Orchestra (For Now),Throwing Muses, Truman Sinclair, Squid, Tyler Ballgame, The Sophs, Ellie O'Neill, Man/Woman/Chainsaw, jasmine.4.t, Lily Seabird, and Stewart Lee with Black Country, New Road. Best Fit's secret sessions have become a key part of End of the Road each year, bringing together artists from across the line-up in a series of short sets, exclusive covers, collaborations, and live interviews and Q&As. Past guests have included Lucy Dacus, St Vincent, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Moses Sumney, Laura Marling, Patti Smith, and Frightened Rabbit - who played a now iconic version of "The Modern Leper". End of the Road returns in September for its 20th anniversary edition, with headliners Pulp, Mac DeMarco, CMAT, Super Furry Animals, Fat Dog, Kurt Vile and one super-secret name yet to be revealed.

We’re excited to announce that legendary Austin rockers White Denim will bring their genre-hopping, hyper-kinetic live show to Larmer Tree this September. We’re sad to announce however that due to unforeseen circumstances Lucinda Williams, Brother Wallace and Pigeon will no longer appear at this year’s festival. We hope to have them join us in the future.
