🎉🎉🎉 We’re very excited to announce that we’re now a fully fledged Dolby Atmos ready studio. Control Room A now has a @neumann.berlin 7.1.4 system installed, tuned and calibrated, and it’s sounding pretty spectacular. We’ll be getting to grips with this new system over the coming months and we’re really looking forward to introducing all of our artists to this burgeoning format. We’ll also been running our series of Immersive Audio Workshops over the next 8 weeks. They’re all filled up now, and we’re looking forward to learning together on those. Lastly a massive thank you to the good people at @aceagrams for their support in the project. This wouldn’t be a reality without their help. 🎉🎉🎉 In a dramatic conclusion to our “what’s in the box?” game, we can reveal it’s only an API 1608 console!! We started Blank back in 2008 - fresh out of education using what budget equipment we could afford and an unreal dose of enthusiasm. At every step we’ve committed to the idea of putting back into Blank, to make it grow and be the best it can be. We’ve worked our way through probably every tier/level of equipment, squeezing every last ounce of music out of it, and we’ve often discussed that, for the way we work, and the way recording is, an API would be the dream console. It’s always felt out of reach, for years, but the fates have been kind and today we’ve arrived at a pretty special moment in the Blank journey. We don’t have big investors, sugar daddies or off shore accounts. This has come about through the years of work with the artists that come here, so this desk and this step is as much yours as it is ours! The ‘C’ word is everywhere just now isn’t it 👀 and that word is Community of course! Next week sees the beginning of Business Community Week, culminating in #smallbusinesssaturday on 6th December. We’re kicking things off a tiny bit early here on Warwick Street, Newcastle, alongside our brilliant neighbours @blankstudios and @starandshadow with a whole host of amazing events for you all. And they’re all FREE OF CHARGE too! 🥳 @blankstudios have their FIRST EVER open studios evening event, giving you the opportunity to come and chat to the producers and see where the magic happens. Alongside a host of utterly brilliant local musicians, the wonderful @smithandliddle recorded their debut album here, and their track Eyes on You is what you can hear in the background on this video. There’s no entry cost, but please contact the guys at Blank via socials to book yourself in one of the half hour slots starting from 6.30pm. Star and Shadow have a full 9 hour programme of Newcastle themed movies for your viewing pleasure. No cost again but movies are ticketed due to capacity. A new addition to our mic cabinet, a matched pair of the Peluso P-414! This mic is designed to emulate the lauded sound of the vintage AKG C 414 EB from 1976. We went back and forth about a good workhorse matched pair for the studio - something versatile but also with it’s own character - and the p-414 should suit perfectly. It’s a genuine all rounder too, great on vocals, guitar, drum overheads and toms, amps, strings, the list goes on. I expect the next time you’re in Blank you’ll probably see this mic pointing at you from one direction or another…. Lastly, big thanks to @makenoiseproaudio for the hook up.

Looking back at our first brilliant Music Production Bootcamp, for women over 35 years old, we ran in November 2024 at @blankstudios The Mission: We wanted to bring together “older” women in the music industry - musicians, vocalists, composers, music tech enthusiasts and lovely people who are underrepresented in recording studio environments. The Idea: a 2-day music production Bootcamp at Blank Studios. Creating a safe and encouraging environment to come together and learn about the technology in the studio, our thoughts and ideas on recording, mixing and production and creating music together. The Outcome: We had such a great time and we would love to do more.
