It’s a common adage in photography that ‘the best camera is the one that’s with you’. I went through a long phase of not posting to this app partially because I hate social media and how it makes me feel- only a simulacrum of connection. But photography never ceased to be a passion, even while I made it into a sometimes wildly unstable career. Lately it just brings me joy to snap something of my life and drop it in a bucket for my own enjoyment. I want to cherish this simple act of daily creation. With all that’s going on in the world, I think I need it now more than ever. So yah, I don’t think I’ll be buying any new DSLR’s anytime soon but this thing is handy as hell. #shotoniphone #freeadvertising #imanappleshill

A documentary project multiple years in the making with @dwetzel25 @_kamranjoon & @willowbranch54 keeps me coming back to MT to celebrate the stories of indigenous youth athletes standing up for themselves, their communities & ancestors. Sometimes you get to work with the best of the best telling critical stories about other amazing people. This is one of those projects that sticks with you for life. I’m humbled to have been invited to be a part of this team and cannot wait to share this series with you on Aug 30th.

A late mentor of mine once heard me complain that I was dissatisfied with my work and progress as an artist. He gruffly retorted that part of being an artist is living with that sublime dissatisfaction and wrestling with it, listening to it, shaping it, and even celebrating it. We aren’t here to judge ourselves but to let our expression flow as truthfully as we know how. It’s been nearly six years since I attempted to cut a reel to demonstrate the state of my creative capabilities. I guess I’ve been terrified to engage with social media as a means to self-promote like so many of my colleagues have learned how to do. I got into this business because I love storytelling and cinema, music and dance. I love being on set, moving my body and mind and collaborating with others to offer a drop into the cosmic creative mix. I am not here for the likes, but for the window through which we can see each other more clearly. Working with these musical and dance artists over the past six years has been one of the many joys of my life. Take a peek at what they’ve created and offered me a chance to interpret through movement, lighting, lensing and vibe. I love you guys. Thanks for bringing me along for the ride. Let’s keep doing what we do. Now to get to work on the narrative and commercial reels…finally. 😂🤷‍♂️
