“It’s me… hi!” 👋🏼 Been a hot minute. How are we? Now we’ve all settled back into the work life and welcomed in 2026 I just wanted to reintroduce myself, and remind my lovely connections what I do when I’m not eating my way around Birmingham in the name of research. I’m still your alternative Brummie comms wizardy-type for hire. Very much still freelance, happily doing things my own way with passion and creativity, and always looking for both short and long-term exciting projects to sink my teeth into. With that in mind, the Bite Comms 2026 books are open for: - Content Creation - Social Media Management - Regional PR - Communications Support - Brand Building - Media Consulting - Influencer Marketing (Local) - Events & Networking - Website/Blog Writing (+SEO) - Copywriting - Fun, noisy person to have around I’m particularly well suited to helping hospitality businesses and professionals launch and boost their brands, but I work with various clients across different niches including culture, property, wellbeing and I’ve even dabbled my well-worn toes into transport. (Love me some trams!) Whether you want to work with Bite Your Brum or Laura (spoiler alert: we’re the same person) you’re guaranteed enthusiasm, personality and bespoke communications support that’s tailored to your specific needs and goals. Most importantly, I’m also jolly fun to have dinner/cocktails with once the working day is done. Can provide testimonials… 😉 Wishing you all a cracking year (even if January is 1783949 days long..) and let’s keep pushing to make Birmingham the very best it can be. Laura / Bite Your Brum 🖤

〰️ Life update 〰️ Had a nice realisation yesterday that I’ve been fully freelance for 3 whole years. I’ve managed to sustain a life, stay sane (just) and not die - all of which I’m quite proud of 😂 Working for yourself is hard. There’s no sugarcoating that. It’s tough being every part of a business from top to bottom (except accounting - I pay a much smarter human to keep me out of jail re that) and knowing you have to show up every day… for yourself more than anyone else. When I started @bitecomms in 2021 I had no clue what to expect. Truth is, I made one of the few impulsive work-based decisions I’ve ever made and threw in the towel at a pretty decent long-term job as Head of Creative for a media agency. It was good on paper but making me unhappy; always working to please everyone except myself. My former boss also turned out to be a total charlatan in the end, but that’s a story for another day… 🤡 I’ve held various media roles since university and had some great jobs. I’ve also had some absolutely awful ones, working for some of the worst people imaginable. Choosing to finally go at it alone felt right and I’ve never regretted taking a chance on myself, even on the nights lying wide awake and worrying. While BYB is a part of my work (and something I still love very dearly after 7 years) my day-to-day business is comms and marketing. I love working with businesses on PR, social media and brand building. I’m thrilled 90% of the clients I work with are in hospitality, and proud 100% of them are Midlands based. It’s humbling to know people trust you can deliver. When you work for yourself it’s sometimes easy to not celebrate the wins like you would as a team. Similarly, no one else is there to help you up when you fall. There’s just you. Being your own cheerleader all of the time can be overwhelming but, ultimately, is why the whole process is so satisfying when things are good. More than anything, I just wish I could go back and tell 24 year old me (who was having a horrible time, both professionally and personally) that it all works out. You’ll be ok. So this is for Laura circa 2010. Good for you, kid 🫶🏼

Soooo it appears Bite Your Brum turns 9 this weekend 👀 I was just flicking through some old pictures and realised it’s my baby’s birthday 🎈No, I don’t know how I’m still alive (let alone running this page) either! I won’t wang on in my usual emo fashion this year, just know I’m grateful for all BYB has given me and the beautiful people I’ve met through it.. especially Jason Momoa 😉 Whether you’ve been here for ages or are one of the many confused Welsh people that started following me this week after ‘those’ Cardiff shenanigans, I appreciate you 🫶🏼 So here’s to all the pints (and hangovers), all the cobs, all the “..shall we go to Missing?” side eyes, all the launches, parties and events, all the lock-ins, all the cackling and screaming, all the beer gardens and badly applied sun cream, all the photo booths and toilet selfies, all the extreme day trips and lunchtime sangria, all of the chaos goblin adventures, all the dogs you kindly let me play with, all the festivals and markets, all the 40th birthdays, all the fried things and fancy things, all the tequila rose shots, and all the iPhones I’ve lost along the way. Here’s some nice memories from the last year 🖤 I love my silly little life x

Why hire a freelance content creator? 💭 Hiring a freelance content creator is like adding a creative superhero to your team without needing to find them a desk or remember their birthday 👀 We swoop in with fresh ideas, sharp writing skills, and the magical ability to turn your brand’s message into content people actually want to read, watch or share. Freelancers are flexible, fast, and often bring experience from working with lots of different brands, which means they know what works (and what doesn’t). Whether you need blog posts, social media captions, photos, videos, or website copy, a great freelancer will help you stay consistent, save time, and keep your audience engaged, all while you focus on running your business. In short: less stress for you, more awesome content for everyone. Fancy a chat? Drop me a DM with “CONTENT” and let’s talk 👋🏼

Looking for a content creator that cares about your brand and the people behind it? 👀 I’ve recently been working with Deliveroo to highlight some of the best small hospitality businesses in Brum - most recently it was the wonderful @burgermeup_uk in Stirchley. Here’s me and owner Molly after a great afternoon shooting content. I love sitting down with the brains behind the business and getting a good understanding of what makes the venue special. What are the USPs? What’s the story behind the menu? Who is in the kitchen? When you’re creating content for independent restaurants, bars and beyond it’s key to know the ethos behind the brand in order make bold, exciting visuals that suit and find the right audience. I love making content. If you need a refresh or just want some help finding your audience, I’m your gal. You can see lots of my videos over on @biteyourbrum - drop me a DM and let’s chat 🙌🏼

Work today involved a huge sizzling pile of meat and losing all the feeling in my fingers, but what a lovely day making content for lovely people. Thankful for my little lot after a painful January 🖤

Been a busy few days work wise. Great to be back at @bbcbirmingham again this week. I was invited on the @bbcwm breakfast show to talk about the how the city can better protect people after the recent tragic incidents with women losing their lives. A bit of a somber conversation tbh but important issues to discuss and nice to be back chatting in the chair with @sarahjulianradio .

Oh hello, it appears I’m up for an award at this year’s @birminghamawards . Lovely to find out my baby, Bite Comms, is finalist in the Start Up Business category 🥰

ad | It’s one of my favourite times of the year to be a food lover in Brum - @birminghamrestaurantfestival is back! With venues across the city taking part, it’s your chance to bag a great meal for a great price, whether that’s at a place you already love or somewhere completely new. There’s loads of restaurants taking part, including @thecowandsow that’s offering both lunch and dinner deals available all this month. Going for the latter, we shared the 2 course evening experience for 2 including a generous platter of taster starters and the picanha sharing board, plus sides and sauces all washes down with a bottle of their house Malbec. A proper feast for just £45pp in a lovely setting - spot on. The festival runs until the end of August so you have plenty of time to get involved - just go to the BRF website, browse the restaurants, offers and availability then book your table. Simple 🫶🏼

Throwback to when I cosplayed as a grown up last Monday 😉 I was delighted to be a judge at this year’s Midland Food Drink & Hospitality Awards, even managing to present 3 awards to a packed room without swearing and/or falling off the stage. Go me 🤣 In all seriousness, it was a pleasure to be involved and some really wonderful hospitality folks were celebrated loud and proud. Forever grateful that my freelance work (as both Bite Comms and Bite Your Brum) means I can be a part of moments like this for people who work incredibly hard serving others day in and out. 📸: @mrladdmedia

Had a great week shooting all over the city, but the highlight was creating content for Birmingham Cocktail Weekend. Really happy with the reel that’s coming out soon (next week over on BYB) and it was lovely to work alongside some brilliant local bartenders again. Love my job 🫶🏼

Had a lot of fun making content with others last month. Most notably I had a cameo in a (now very viral) video in collaboration with Visit Birmingham, Joe Lycett and my good friend @alexn_e , who seems to always get me in progressively more silly situations. If you’d like to see me chat to The Bull with a mouthful of Curly Wurly you’ll find the video on @biteyourbrum or via the @visit_birmingham page. Here’s a photo of me and Alex before the rest of the chocolate melted in her pockets…
