It’s been one week since the opening of #MetaWhat? at @themediamajlis and we have welcomed over 1,000 of you so far! Thank you to everyone who made this happen, there aren’t enough tags to thank you all.
It was an honour to have HH @mozabintnasser formally dedicate The Media Majlis at Northwestern University in Qatar earlier this week. HH toured the exhibition I’ve been curating for the past 2 years. The exhibition currently on show is: Arab Identities, images in film, an exploration of how over a century’s worth of film has impacted notions of Arab identity.
As part of Naso Art Journal’s program at Muharraq Nights, Bahrain, our second panel of the evening focused on regional perspectives on sustainability in the arts.
Titled Building Sustainable Art Practices: Perspectives from the Region, the discussion brought together Jack Thomas Taylor, Moath Alofi, and Robert Frith to reflect on sustainability across institutional frameworks, artistic practice, and cultural production. Drawing from their work across museums, creative industries, and curatorial platforms, the conversation examined how long-term cultural infrastructures are built, supported, and sustained within the region.

Anatomy of a Majlis by Media Majlis, Northwestern University in Qatar.
Anatomy of a Majlis revolves around the acts of conversation, self-reflection, socializing, entertainment, hospitality and comfort. It places the majlis at the intersection of culture, design and communication.
As the majlis continues to play a crucial role in social, political and economic spheres, this reevaluation prompts visitors to consider how this traditional space can inspire new architectural forms and promote deeper community engagement in contemporary Qatar.
