BIM in Series is a charity registered in January 2024.
The charity works to support students learning and development and to bridge the gaps between industry and academia through the sharing of knowledge and expertise via an annual conference.
BIM in Series conferences bring together specialists, architects and designers to present their work on themes that are directly or indirectly connected to the topic of BIM (Building Information Modelling).
Hosted by a variety of different institutions, the conferences shine a light on cutting edge research and innovative practice, attracting both researchers and practitioners from some of the most famous architectural practices in the world as guest speakers. Speakers at the BIM in Series of conferences have travelled from a number of countries to join us, including Chile, America, China, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Dubai, Denmark, Italy, Spain and Romania. Some of the practices that have been represented at the conferences include Zaha Hadid Architects; Foster and Partners; Rogers Stirk Harbour Partners; Bjark Ingels Group (BIG); Grimshaws; Heatherwick Studios; Mace; Maber Architects and Gensler.
Profits generated from our conferences via tickets and sponsorship donations are instrumental in developing charity initiatives and to provide ongoing support for future activities such as further events.
The BIM in Series Charity funding provides aid to students pursuing architectural education who are suffering from financial hardship and provides support to those with a vested interest in the betterment of architectural education.
As a live project, we believe the conference and the charity itself bring great value to both industry and academia alike.
If you would like to be involved with this project as a sponsor, supporting partner, speaker or volunteer, please get in touch.

On behalf of the BIM in Series charity, Stefan Fratila and I are very proud to announce that Luka Stefanovic, Vectorworks will be supporting the BIM in Series charity as an ambassador.
Luka and Vectorworks have been with me since the start of this initiative. In 2016 when I first came up with the idea to respond to a government white paper and the impact of this on industry and education, I was working closely with Vectorworks on the Association of Architectural Educators and Vectorworks scholarship programme, which would provide all aae member schools, students and staff with free software. In 2017, I launched BIM camp and Vectorworks joined me as a sponsor. Since then, we have worked together and I have very much enjoyed hosting conferences each year with the team. Vectorworks are an incredible company to collaborate with - caring, enthusiastic, passionate. Luka Stefanovic has been an immense support as not only a speaker, but a great ally for the charity as an initiative.
As we move forwards towards the 10th anniversary of BIM in Series events, I am so proud of what we have all achieved. The BIM in Series charity continues to work to raise funds for students in architecture that suffer financial hardship and for the betterment of architectural education and I look forward to the future and what this could hold. A huge thank you to Luka Stefanovic for his contribution and service to the charity so far. We hope that this role really honours his commitment. Here’s to the next steps! 🥂

A bit about our Alfonso, our new BIM in Series ambassador!
Alfonso is an architect leading BIM implementation at the award-winning, London-based multi-discipline Heatherwick Studio. Having worked as Project Architect and Head of Design in a leading practice in Chile, Alfonso decided to move to a more technical role after observing how technology skills, or the lack of them, influence and limit design creativity and affect project outcome. With experience working internationally in Spain, India, Chile and UK, Alfonso started collaborating with Heatherwick studio in 2015 as a BIM Consultant, and then moved to Woods Bagot (London) to work as Design Technology Manager. In 2018 he re-joined Heatherwick Studio to continue BIM implementation. Since then the studio has achieved a digital transformation in the BIM department becoming one of the industry leaders in its sector. His goal is to embed BIM in the design phase without limiting or hindering the design process.

For anyone who doesn’t know, I am the Director of a charity. The charity, BIM in Series, was registered in January 2024 for the purpose of raising funding through a collection of annual conferences, which bring together specialists, architects, designers and software companies to present their work on the topic of BIM (Building Information Modelling). Hosted by different institutions, the conferences shine a light on cutting edge research and innovative BIM practice, helping to bridge the gaps between academic and professional practice. The events also open the debate and discussion on critical topics, such BIM in Education, which looks at why, where and how are we teaching BIM as part of architectural education? I have been running the conferences for almost 10 years now, raising funds to support students who are suffering from financial hardship and with the goal of improving, where I can, architectural education and the opportunities within it for students, academics and practitioners. The BIM in Series charity has hosted guests from over 27 schools of architecture and speakers from some of the most famous architectural practices and software companies worldwide. We are proud to be sponsored by Vectorworks, Foster+Partners, Dante’s construction and Heatherwick Studio and grateful to all the support that has been given over the last decade. With the BIM in Series co-founder Stefan Fratila, we are excited to be planning our 10 year anniversary for February 2027 @biminseries #bim #students #architecturaleducation #architecture #software

📣 We are very excited to announce Rob Annable, Field Section as a special guest speaker for the BIM in Series , BIM In Leicester 2026 conference at the Leicester School of Architecture , De Montfort University on 4th February 2026 📣
Rob will speak on BIM + Ai
Established in 2025, Field Section formalises five years working in deliberate overlap. What began during lockdowns as shared reconnaissance – trading references, testing ideas – became work neither of us could do alone. Methods sharpening through engagement, formats tested under live conditions. Field Section gives that work a name and the means to engage: the same conversation, newly equipped, methods sharpening through continued practice.
From Wolverhampton, Rob Annable brings two decades navigating housing and infrastructure: leaking domes, contaminated ground, planning delays that outlast governments, the gap between what gets designed and what can be maintained. Working from York, Justin Pickard moves across cases and contexts: field notes, experimental archives, the accumulated traces of how coordination actually happens. Field Section works where pattern recognition meets material accountability – tracking situations as they develop, building tools to make new observations possible. Reading what’s written down and what gets left out. Meeting problems where they actually live – in the field. Field Section brings architectural and ethnographic intelligence to bear on situations where technical solutions and social realities refuse to align.
