Have you ever dis-assembled and re-assembled a watch movement before? I’ve never, so I was excited when @omega Boutique Vancouver invited me to a private watchmaking session. Omega even flew in Victor from Toronto, their top repair-master to make sure it’s done right. Omega never asked me to record or share this private session, but I thought it would be awesome to document it for my own enjoyment. Julian from @4thdimension.pics , a fellow watch enthusiast, joined me for over 3 hours as we talked about the history of Omega, the history of watchmaking, and a 101 training on how to take a watch movement apart, clean, and then re-assemble. Good times!! Thanks to Chris, Jorge, Calvin, and of course repair master Victor for an amazing afternoon at the @fairmontvan flagship @omega boutique store in downtown Vancouver. I look forward to more events like this in the near future. #omegaboutiquevancouver #omegawatches #watchmaking

Roll Call Day 5 in Sham Shui Po, Kowloon, Hong Kong. @vsoniji said it’s black and white only for this district, so once again we shot with @ilfordphoto XP2 so we could get the film developed and scanned on the same day. We had @cjrayray and @chung_mts also join us for this epic Saturday afternoon meet-up. There’s so much action happening here, it’s hard to isolate individual scenes, as well as frame something meaningful at the right moment. You have to be quick here. Having my @leica_camera M7 with the 28mm Summicron v.1 was very useful here. Frame 9/19 was captured with the @lightlenslab 50mm f/2 SPII. Super cool lens. After shooting film under pressure for 5 days in a row, I was starting to get tired, even though it was a lot of fun. As per usual, after we finished, we headed back to @camerafilmphoto to drop off all of our rolls for a quick develop, scan, and upload so we could all share the same day. Check out my IG ‘Roll Call’ Highlights folder to see my posts for more real-time posts. #bhthk2025 #believeinfilm #hongkongstreetphotography

Roll Call Day 3: North Point + Kodak Ultramax 400. @vsoniji and I decided to head to one of my favourite spots on Hong Kong island, North Point. I love the street markets in this area. @kevinliuky from day 1 joined us again, as well as a student from China (sorry I forgot your name, DM so I can tag you!). I continued shooting with the @leica_camera M7 + 28mm Summicron-M v.1, but I also brought the 21mm Summilux-M for those wide architectural shots. The last few images in this series are myself and Vishal heading back to @camerafilmphoto to have all of our film developed, scanned, and uploaded. Go to my highlights to see Roll Call Day 3 stories that I posted in real time. #bhthk2025 #believeinfilm #leicacamera

Roll Call Day 2: Central District with Fujicolor 400. Today @vsoniji and I were joined by @_mmarieeeeee and @buddha_head . John didn’t have a film camera so we loaned him the beer can camera. I think he had fun with it. I continued shooting with my standard set-up: @leica_camera M7 + 28mm Summicron v.1. Vishal had his beloved M7 à la carte with his signature engraved on the top plate with the single piece shutter lever. We had a lot of fun just hanging out and talking most of the time, as you can tell by my images. I enjoy capturing impromptu street portraits of my fellow photographers as much as taking candid street photos. We were also scoping out the area for our upcoming photo walk with @mintcamera and @rollei35af on the weekend (check out previous posts for that photo walk). As much as I enjoy the challenge of shooting in black and white, I prefer Hong Kong in colour. As soon as we finished, Vishal and I headed back, dropped off the rolls of film at @camerafilmphoto , had it developed, scanned and uploaded to Dropbox, and shared our photos before the end of the day on IG Stories. You can check out my real time posts in my highlights section called HK Roll Call. #bhthk2025 #believeinfilm #leicam7 #summicron28mm

December 2nd, 2025 ‘Roll Call’ Day One. For 8 consecutive days @vsoniji and I went out to shoot a different roll of film in different districts of Hong Kong every day. Once we finished, we would head back to @camerafilmphoto , drop off the film, have the scans by the end of the day, and finally share some of our images via IG Stories. This exercise was awesome, but exhausting too. We both got sick afterwards :-) On day one of Roll Call, we chose @ilfordphoto XP2 Super and Sham Shui Po. @kevinliuky decided to join us. I shot with my @leica_camera M7 + 28mm Summicron v.1. Vishal had his Hasselblad SWC and Kevin his @leicacamerausa MP and 28mm Ultron. There’s more pressure shooting film, and a different mindset when shooting black and white. I had to ignore the amazing colours in front of me. It became a distraction. Instead, I had to focus on textures, shapes, people, motion, etc. Thanks to the team at @camerafilmphotohk for supporting us on this cool project. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to do this again in the near future, perhaps in a new city… #bhthk2025 #ilfordxp2 #believeinfilm

Way back Wednesday to my #bhthk2016 project in Hong Kong in collaboration with @monogramasia and @arcadeoriginal . Ryan and I made a ton of videos on that trip, in addition to making new friends. I also had the opportunity to visit @shriroimaging.hasselblad and they loaned me the @hasselblad CFV-50c on the 503CW film body. I was so excited playing with this set-up, I took just as many photos of the camera itself as I did shoot with it!! I did a full review on YouTube, but I was super sick when I shot it, so a warning. That was the last time I tested a Hasselblad camera. Hopefully I’ll get an opportunity again at some point. #mediumformat #hasselbladcfv50c #hasselbald503cw

The @leica_camera D-Lux8 is the perfect compact travel camera on my latest trip to Hong Kong. Although I had the SL3, nothing beats having a light and compact camera around my neck at all times. Most of these images were captured while commuting on the double decker buses (I always sit upstairs and up front), but I also enjoyed using it at night as a companion to my film cameras, group selfies, and serious documentary and street photography as well. Having a fast 24-75mm equivalent zoom is this camera’s super power, making the most of the M43 sensor. The last image was captured on a moving bus while I sat in my seat. Yes you can use it for product photography as well. Thanks again to @leica_watch for the loaner of the new titanium ZM12 while in Hong Kong. If you’re interested in getting the D-Lux8, check out my video reviews of the camera on YouTube. I recently posted one from Hong Kong, but I also have two from Italy and two more from my studio back in Vancouver. Clearly I believe in this camera. #bhthk2025 #leicadlux8 #hkstreetphotography #leicacamera

My main ILC digital camera for #bhthk2025 was the @leica_camera SL3 Reporter and the 21mm Summilux-M via @lightlenslab M to L helicoid adapter. I also had the 28mm Summicron-M, but as you can see, most of these images were ultra-wide shots. In a city as compact as Hong Kong, it’s not hard to fill up the frame, even at 21mm. I tried my best to shoot the everyday and mundane, but it’s hard doing it with such a big camera, and only manually focusing. It was also a burden at times to drag such a big and heavy kit everywhere I went, but it was worth it. On my next trip I might have to bring the SL 16-35mm and see what happens. Thanks @m21043892 for your help in acquiring such a beast of a kit for this trip and thanks @leica_watch for loaning me the ZM12 to keep me on time and looking sharp. The majority of these images were captured within a few blocks of my minlaw’s place in To Kwa Wan, Kowloon, Hong Kong. #leicacamera #leicasl3 #21mmsummilux #hongkongstreetphotography

December 7th, 2025, 1:30pm. The official @rollei35af x @camerafilmphoto Photowalk in Central District, Hong Kong Island. @gary228ho of @mintcamera and I thought it would be a great idea to invite a few of our friends for a nice Sunday stroll armed with the new Rollei 35AF camera and take some photos in the Central district. The awesome team at Camera Film Photo were able to develop, scan and upload all the images the same day (before 8pm). Thanks to everyone who came out, and thanks to Gary and @vsoniji for helping make this a memorable event. I hope to do more of these on my next Hong Kong visit. #rollei35af #believeinfilm #filmisnotdead #bhthk2025

While in Hong Kong, @vsoniji and I collaborated with @camerafilmphoto to do a daily “Roll Call”. Every day for 8 days we picked an area to photograph, the participants would choose the film, and we would shoot until we all finished our roll of film. After, Vishal and I took the film back to the lab, had the images processed, scanned and uploaded before the end of the day. I shared on IG Stories in real time every day while in Hong Kong, but this is the first time I’m sharing them here on an actual post. On Roll Call Day 4, Vishal and I picked Mong Kok as the starting point and planned to head south towards Tsim Sha Tsui or until we ran out of film. We only got as far as Yau Ma Tei. Our participants were myself, Vishal, @chung_mts and the lovely Karling aka @so_lightly . Karling picked @kodakprofessional Portra400, so we knew we had to include some street portraiture. With Karling as our fearless leader, people who would typically not pose for us would happily pose for her, which was awesome. Thanks for joining us Karling and Mark. More Roll Call days to share in upcoming posts. These images captured on the @leica_camera M7 + 28mm Summicron ASPH. V.1 with Kodak Portra 400. It’s a really nice film. #bhthk2025 #believeinfilm #kodakportra400

14 rolls in 14 days. That’s how many film photos I took when I was in Hong Kong back in Nov-Dec. As I was looking through my images, I realized how many I took of the people I was shooting with, and not just outwards towards the streets. When I’m home, I mostly use film for family and friends, and only shoot film unless I’m reviewing something or I have a specific project. Even in Hong Kong, as much as I love street photography, I’m just as happy capturing the moments with the people I’m actually with. Most of these photographs captured with my @leica_camera M7 + 28mm Summicron, others with the @rollei35af by @mintcamera and the Ricoh GR1. Dev + Scan by my friends at @camerafilmphoto in Hong Kong. Thanks @vsoniji for shooting with me every day, and all my camera nerd friends who decided to join and support my various projects. More photos to come!! #bhthk2025 #filmisnotdead #believeinfilm
