My boyfriend @johnny_kiernan is very clever and catered a 200 person wedding for the delightful @kabrunt and @claudiafrag0so Here’s a look behind the scenes, we had a laugh and a jolly and cooked some fantastic food from fantastic suppliers. Johnny’s available from the summer for private work and yes I am now his agent with a 95% cut.

Taking the Hackney School of Food on the road! 🚜🥕 We are incredibly excited to be bringing our ‘soil to spoon’ food education ethos to Shimpling Park Farm on Saturday 6th June for Soil to Feast. This inaugural event is the first of its kind in the UK—a festival dedicated entirely to soil education for a non-farming audience. We’ll be joining a brilliant gathering of farmers, growers, bakers, and chefs to lead a hands-on, multi-sensory journey through the world beneath our feet. From exploring the soil and discovering organic farm-scale growing to hands-on cooking, participants of all ages will help produce a meal sourced directly from the farm’s own fields, the vegetable garden, and local East Anglian growers. The day culminates in a beautiful outdoor communal feast where we’ll eat the results of our work together. Event Details: 🗓️ Saturday 6th June 2026 📍 Shimpling Park Farm ⏰ Arrival from 1:30pm | 2:00pm start 🍴 Finish approx. 7:30pm Come and get your hands in the earth and your seat at the table. We can’t wait to see you there! Real Bread Campaign Ambassador and passionate bread maker Giovanni DiSarno will be conducting a FREE Talk & Taste about the ancient history of bread at EA Sustain 2026. Bread is one of humanity’s oldest foods — and one of its most meaningful. In this lively Taste & Talk session, Giovanni traces bread’s journey across thousands of years of civilisation, from Neolithic grains and Egyptian leavened loaves to the astonishing variety of breads baked in ancient Greece and Rome. Along the way, you won’t just hear the story — you’ll taste it. Giovanni will share three historic breads inspired by ancient traditions, bringing the flavours of the past to life. Come listen, learn, and quite literally taste history. 📍 EA Sustain 2026 – Firstsite, Colchester 📅 28 March 2026 🕐 1:20 – 2:10 pm 🥖 FREE Taste & Talk. BOOK your ticket at / 👨‍🍳 With Giovanni DiSarno, Real Bread Campaign Ambassador

Spent a glorious afternoon yesterday scoffing wholemeal pancakes and milling beautiful @shimplingparkfarm organic landrace wheat with generous Mr Biddle @biddlesbread 🌾 on Alice Pawsey's Osttiroler stone mill. We played around with different extractions and I came home with a boot full of flour to experiment with in the bakery. I'll be using the freshly milled wholemeal in our table loaves this week and might try a brioche recipe with some of the whiter flour later on... It's so invigorating as a baker to connect with this process and makes my job feel even more fun, interesting and tangible/corporeal/substantial (not sure on the word ..All of those and more...!) It was exciting to exchange recipes and share different processes and baking methods, as we both mostly work alone. We spoke about the ways, as bakers, we favour flour with high protein contents, looking closely at gluten formation, but what if we shifted our gaze to include favouring flour with a high 'life' content! The more alive the flour, being stone milled and retaining the bran and germ, the more active the fermentation and fuller the flavour. And more vitality brought into the baking process. We questioned the value of this work, what we should be charging for our bread and the salaries that we realistically need to make to pay our mortgages etc. Vitality extending to the lives and livelihoods of everyone involved at each stage of the farming-to-eating process. Here are a few snaps and some from Dom @biddlesbread of the wheat growing in the field @shimplingparkfarm - note the differences in the ears - this is all one variety! (Albeit an unknown one 😆)

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the @smokeandfirefestival Ember Lounge this weekend. What we created together was more than a feast. It was fire, flour and field. Slow sourdough baking with Dominic, extraordinary fungi from Sam of Mycotek Mushrooms, beautiful organic produce from John & Alice of Shimpling Park Farm and open-flame cooking from me. Food cooked over embers has a different rhythm. It asks you to gather, to pause, to share, to embrace the cold, to feel the fire - you did exactly that ❤️🔥 Thank you for bringing the energy, the conversation and the appetite. Share fire. Share food. Share the moment. Share the love ❤️ 👨‍🍳 @julian_d_brown_chef 🍞 @BiddlesBread 🍄 @mycotek.mushrooms 🌾 @ShimplingParkFarm We’ll be back very soon with more of the same 🙏🏼❤️🔥
