Our Instagram’s been quiet—we’ve been out in the real world getting to know our home city, Melbourne/Naarm. We tried ricotta cannoli straight from the fryer and soft serve with olive oil and a sprinkling of salt. We watched an Agnès Varda film in a modernist architect’s former home and saw rare footage of Gunditjmara Elder and master weaver Aunty Connie Hart working on Country. The last time I had an event at @mnz_store for @lindsaymagazine it was Covid. I couldn’t fly over to be there and we couldn’t have any guests. But we went ahead and live streamed a beautiful (and socially-distanced) conversation because it felt like the world needed some kind of connection and inspiration more than ever. But remnants of this time lingered in my memory during this trip to New York. Mostly I just felt incredibly grateful to be able to celebrate together. Thank you @andres__altamirano , @estefaniaderos and @gustavoqk for inviting me to be a part of this special book, to @maryam_nassir_zadeh for having us in her beautiful space, and to all of the old friends and new who joined us on Friday night. For the past year I have been working on the most beautiful book celebrating Guatemalan craft and heritage with long-term collaborator @andres__altamirano and new friends @agnesstudio.co . The book opens with a poem by Rosa Chávez and features a custom type created with @matterofsorts inspired by a vintage book on Guatemalan arts and crafts.
