@lullabiesinlockdown is up in Glasgow this week. We will be sharing our exhibition and play objects over at @soundplayprojects on Friday and Saturday. Come on down.
Our original @lullabiesinlockdown show is now a pop up! And we are touring. If you know a venue you’d like to see it, let me know! First stop @thoughtbubblefestival this weekend.
Thank you everyone who came to @sunnybankmills for the Lullabies in Lockdown exhibition.
It seems fitting to share this final poem, in the form that I began the rest of the ones I put in the show; on my phone, often with only one hand to spare in the early hours of the morning whilst holding my little daughter.
Thanks to everyone. Especially all the artists and their “truthiness.”

Parenthood and being time-poor have placed me in a strange dual space. I stand at the edges of the connections to my old life, with my arms full and looking in, feeling both removed and very tethered. Yet whenever I step into my work, my own ambition and desire, the things that once only defined me—I turn and see the mother I am, hovering beside me. In both places, I wonder if I am giving enough, if if I am fully anywhere.
One thing about this forever shapeshifting and dancing between selves without enough time is that I’m constantly being challenged to accept the cracks and the limits. It’s meant really rethinking the time i have and sitting with the things that can’t be done, finished or made good. It’s uncomfortable but freeing. It’s training me in how to let things lie.
I really wanted to do #hourlycomicday this year but around family life, not so far away from it (this is a thing though isn’t it with hourly comics? You have to live beyond your workspace to do it). I’ve been talking to my lovely students about panel composition through cutting up the page. So that’s what I did for this. A scrap of paper for every hour. Until all the pieces of life made a comic.
I had a nice time. Thanks for putting up with me, fam.
Day 1 of @lullabiesinlockdown at @soundplayprojects Glasgow. We met some lovely folks, lots of babies and really loved being in this space full of brilliant sound objects. We are open again 11-3 tomorrow.
@lullabiesinlockdown is going to be @thoughtbubblefestival this week. Head over to the Queen’s suite area to come and find us. We’ll be showing off the new pop-up version of work from the original show plus some new artists, as well as bringing along our soft space and interactive objects for young children. See you there ?
(After this, I’m going into hibernation)
We are still open to a few more artworks for the touring @lullabiesinlockdown show made up of illustrated stories around new parenthood during covid. Please DM if you know of illustration work made during this time.
Covid pregnancy stories, surrogacy stories, fertility journeys, queer stories.. love, laughter lows and loss are all a welcome part of this ongoing open call.
