Hot off the press: Rad Trad for @finehomebuilding . “Resisting the urge to maximize square footage on any project, whether it’s a new home or a remodel, takes discipline. From a real estate perspective, one would think it a no-brainer to build as big as the lot allows. But that approach doesn’t always jibe with the client’s budget or their goals—and bigger isn’t always better when it comes to creating an interior that feels spacious where it should be and intimate where it makes sense. That’s what this remodel from Seattle-based Best Practice Architecture got right. Despite its pop-top addition, it’s still a small house on a small lot.” Thank you, @finehomebuilding . Granny Pad and Oak Cliff Casita are featured in @archdigest as part of “15 Tiny House Ideas That Prove Small Spaces Unlock Big Creativity.” “In a tiny footprint, there is no room for unconsidered or wasted space,” says Ian Butcher on Oak Cliff Casita. AD notes, “This sleeping nook adds dimension through its green tone while providing practical places to organize everyday necessities. Built-in shelves maximize storage space, while drawers conceal clutter and even double as a DIY pullout dog bed.” On Granny Pad, AD writes, “When it comes to small spaces, instinct may be to keep the design plan light and airy, but adding a little color can have a big impact. This tiny guest house by Best Practice Architecture has a pink door that welcomes visitors with immediate cheer.” Thank you, @shinnersss and @archdigest ! A nostalgic revival at The Wedge(wood). Located in the Wedgwood neighborhood of Seattle, this 1970s architect-designed home is owned by a young family who set out to refresh their space while considering original details that begged to be preserved. When we were tapped for the project, family-owned contractor Ainslie Davis informed us that their late uncle had been a part of the team that built the original house. Elated to find partners with reverence for the house and its provenance, our clients agreed that we would be the perfect duo for the job. Situated on a corner lot in a quiet Seattle neighborhood, Corner Copia is a comprehensive reimagining of a large, 100-year-old family home. In its storied life, the house has been many things—most recently, an 8-unit apartment building. The project consisted of stripping away years of neglect and bad renovations to establish a large family kitchen and comfortable primary suite home. Photographer: @zackbent

For Ian Butcher, Sarah Smith and Kip Katich of Seattle studio Best Practice Architecture, what's most exciting in design right now is the return to color, whether it's in homeowners' sensibility or in product colorways. To wit, the LUXE NEXT Class of 2026 honorees have a knack for creating spaces that are playful, functional and full of unexpected color moments.
