Super grateful for the opportunity to bring “Reliquary” to life for the inaugural launch of Cannonball Arts. The project was proposed as a shelter and I have attempted to hold that idea while making the sculpture a soft and quiet space for those who venture inside.
Sincere thanks to @greglundgren and @kaleidoscopa for supporting my vision and providing a wide open door for me to build this project on site over the spring. I have had the pleasure of meeting and enjoying the company of so many NW artists through the process. Seattle has such a rich community of bright eyed creatives.
Cannonball Arts officially opens its doors for regular viewing hours next week. I hope you can get down to experience this wonderful space!

Thanks to everyone to came out to see The Charity Stripe over these busy summer months. Much appreciated!
My aim with the work was to highlight celebration, for ourselves and for each other. It’s something to lay ahold of, to work at I think.
Also look forward to seeing how the components of the project take on new lives and expand after this.

We are back in the gallery for normal gallery hours after Spring Break. Today we are highlighting Seattle artist, Zack Bent!
In Bent's work he mentions, "Are We the Champions? / You Rock, Will We? was generated for a 2023 installation at Jack Straw Cultural Center. In 2019, I hired artist Eden Kolbo to create a series of mascot heads to use to explore rituals of celebration, play and camaraderie in the context of the sport of basketball. The videos on view here follow the mascots as they commit to the eternal task of preparing for their grand moments in the gym and help each other overcome their fear of the spotlight through practice and repetition. They dance for a future audience in abandon and near silence. While basketball is the context, the mascots are my actual children which creates the space for themes of brotherhood, rituals of intimacy, coming of age and ideas of masculinity.
Also included in the exhibition, Pass Me the Rock is a series of attempts to create basketball-like objects from basketballs. The process involves inverting found rubber basketballs and filling their voids with everyday materials like dirt, concrete, sawdust, spray foam to name a few. In these works, I allow myself the chance to make something unpredictable, even ugly with the help of discarded, relinquished objects. "
