Bernie Rosow

A tribute to the legendary Bernie Rosow - Bernie’s passing has sent ripples through the freeski world. He was the embodiment of passion and vigor, having spent his life chasing winter around the globe, doing everything in his power to spend his time on snow with the people he loved. At 45 years old, you could still find him gracefully painting big lines in the backcountry or spinning 10s in the @mammothunbound park, day in and day out. He lived and breathed the culture of freeskiing in a way that many of us can only aspire to. There’s no other way to say it; he lived authentically, and that’s something the world needs far more of. FREESKIER is honored to share Rosow’s obituary, as penned by his loved ones, on our website. Completely crushed and devastated, a loss of words, and a roller coaster of emotions, these last few days have been since your passing, Bernie @bernierosow . This was going to be a fun post, from another one of our fun adventures together. Climbing a mountain, skiing down, and capturing beautiful moments. Unfortunately, that’s not how it went; we never made it to the top of the mountain. Halfway up Bloody Mountain, that was it, you left this beautiful earth, on one of the most beautiful days, in one of the most beautiful places, surrounded by beautiful people. Certainly not by choice, but I guess that’s how it was meant to be. Elliott, Danila, Amber, and I tried, never giving up, hoping you would come back to us, come back to Alex, come back to Amber, come back to your loving family and friends. I’m sorry Alex, I know your dad was your superhero, he was my superhero too, I’m going to miss him dearly. Bernie lived life to the fullest, full throttle, always with a smile on his face. An inspiration for all of us. I’m so grateful for all the time we’ve spent together, the memories we’ve created, and the photos we have captured. Bernie, you are an amazing chapter in my life; you actually span many chapters in my life. I’m going to miss you dearly, I love you, Bernie! A huge thanks to the countless people who have reached out over the past five days. I appreciate all of your support, and the support of the Mammoth community. Thanks for all the kind words and many hugs. And a huge thanks to @monocountysar , many of you whom I personally know. I am very grateful for your efforts up there, and all your support as we came down the mountain.

For the ski down on Sunday, May 24th the gondola will load at 3:30 and ski down will start around 4 PM. The celebration of life will be in the evening of Saturday, June 13, at Main Lodge, with additional details to come. There will be a Zoom link offered for anyone who cannot make it in person. Another birthday, 45, and another switch 1080 blunt ✅ off the list yesterday. At this point I've been doing this trick more than half my life. 23 years I think. It's a fun personal goal to look forward to. The process of building up to it every year is what I enjoy so much. I'm just stoked to be healthy and to be having a blast hitting jumps and riding the slushy spring park. The @osmo_global Action 6 on top and the @gopro Hero 13 Black on the bottom. Both shooting 4K 120fps with default settings out of the box. The most notable thing right off the bat is the tone difference. Both are on auto white balance. Over the years I've used almost every pov camera imaginable but these days I'm more inclined to grab the DJI Action 6. There are a number of reasons but the big ones for me are the built in storage and the app that does not require you to pay more just for features like slow motion.
