✨OPEN CENTER: Artists-in-Residence— A Conversation ✨ Join us on May 29 from 6–8 pm for a final evening with our OPEN CENTER artists-in-residence. Spend time with Jillian Crochet (@jilliancrochet ), Dawline-Jane Oni-Eseleh (@disfordilettante ), Natalie Palms (@natalierose_textiles ), and Sabina Shanti Kariat (@sabinabinabina ) as they share reflections on their practices, works-in-progress, and the ideas that shaped their month-long residency at Berkeley Art Center. Together, we’ll gather to listen, connect, and talk about art, nature, place, and our relationship to the environment, rooted in conversations inspired by Live Oak Park and the broader Bay Area landscape. Refreshments and snacks will be provided, and we invite you to stay afterwards to hang out and continue the conversation 🌿 ABOUT OPEN CENTER: Artists & Community Throughout April, Berkeley Art Center transformed into a communal workspace and gathering space for artists and community members. Working across diverse media, the artists-in-residence explored the intersections of art, nature, culture, and site while experimenting with new forms of engagement and collective creative practice. 📍 Berkeley Art Center 🗓 May 29, 6–8 pm More information in bio.

The Rock 🪨 Costume is finally happening! I’ve been dreamin’ about it for at least six years. Iykyk. Experimenting and new material research makes my brain zing. My hands have been giving me a lot of trouble the past year, which has been really frustrating, but working with @nicolekshaffer has been so healing and invigorating. We were troubleshooting in our last session and they were taking this absurd project so earnestly and seriously that I felt it heal my inner artist critic. It’s made making fun again! More art w/friends please. It has been such a joy to be able to work on it during my residency @berkeleyartcenter . I’m so grateful to @giselanycoak for inviting me and all the help and support! Listening to the birds and creek babbling while working on it has been such a pleasure. Saturday is the last day I’ll be @berkeleyartcenter from 2-5pm so hit me up to visit!I I love to show you and/or troubleshoot with you ;) First two images of me a curly haired person in a power chair inside the wire armature of a rock (or bolder). It will eventually be a reed armature with a soft rock-looking fabric. Third video is of a grey sheet vaguely rock shaped covering a wire armature (a failed 1st attempt of the rock costume inner-covering), it is slightly wobbling and you can hear me talking inside of it) Fourth is an image of a sexy rock in the sun with green grass and smaller rocks behind it. It is a light grey with some tan shading and one side is in high shadow. Fifth image is of 3 rock material prototypes/tests/ma. quettes. (There have been a bunch…) And some dream ramp watercolors in a stack. Sixth image is a close up of one of the tests, it’s a shiny black rock giving obsidian, next to it are wire rock armatures that I used to build the tests on.
