Today my Facebook Memories reminds me that it’s been exactly 10 years since I shot this passion project, which to this day remains in the corner of my mind
I spent 5 weeks living in Bangkok with one of my oldest friends
@winsflows who was making a living purely through parkour and stunt work. Alex and I had become close friends through parkour in 2005/6, and I had since gone on to become a full time videographer 📹
We spent the first few days of this 5 week adventure at Lion City Gathering in Singapore 🇸🇬 On the flight over there, it came up in casual discussion that
@thebartlife was my favourite. We rock up and Bart’s there! First chance Alex gets he embarrasses me to Bart saying “this is Ben he’s your number one fan!” 🤣 20 minutes or so later I shot Slide 2 (watch closely) which unbeknown to me set the tone for the following 5 weeks…
Alex’s 1 room bedsit in Bangkok became what seemed like the central hub for the biggest talents in parkour for that following month 🌍
@domtomato @tim_champion @jannis_schauer and more would come to stay for days at a time and I’d capture the whole thing 🎞️ Huge sends, rooftops, full length interviews with the likes of
@thejasonpaul @anananwar @deeenester and many more. Hours of footage that seems to have only got more valuable as these peoples careers have transcended in to great things.
Amongst all this going on though is
@boy_spinboy 👀
“Spinners”, an unknown 16 year old kid from Laos, who on the first day in Singapore adopted Alex and I as his guardians 🧑🧑🧒 So much so that he ended up flying from Singapore to Bangkok and living with us for the next 5 weeks and was there for all of it!
My Snapchat at the time was doing particularly well due to circles I was in back home in the UK, and I was relentless for posting 🤳 Spinboy quickly became the main topic of my Snapchat, and to many extents is the main character ahead of Alex on all this footage I’ve got. Felt like my little brother. Imagine my excitement when a few years later I see Spinboy join
@teamfarang 😳 the fucking boy has made it
So many wild and wonderful story lines to this project. Hopefully this year is the year I finally put it together 🎬
