The Cunningham Raffle Guitar: Salvage to Top - Part 2
We are happy to be a part of this project once again. This is the 4th year of the Cunningham Guitar Raffle for The Handmade Music School mademusic here in Floyd, Virginia.
Each year luthier Jackson Cunningham of Cunningham Handmade Instruments builds a beautiful, custom-made guitar that the school raffles off with all proceeds benefitting their music education programming and scholarship fund.
This year's guitar was built with red spruce salvaged from Hurricane Helene blowdown in the Grayson County highlands of Virginia.
For the past four years we've been lucky enough to document each guitar build as well as capture live performances of various talented players demonstrating the beauty and sound of these incredible instruments. This year's model is a stunner! Thank you to Peluso Microphone Lab, LLC for helping us do justice to this project 🙂

“Headwaters” my original song about two brothers who work as Axemen and River Drivers on the Upper Hudson. Throughout the 1800’s and into the next century the logging industry dominated the Adirondacks and the northeast. Rivers and snowmelt were used to transport logs downstream to mill towns. The job of the River Driver was to shepherd logs through stretches of rock and rapids. Listen now at the link in my bio.
