Beat Screen, de Aranza Cortés Karam, es un proyecto que cruza la pornografía, el postporno, la economía y la tecnología desde una perspectiva crítica y situada en el Sur global. A través de performances donde destruye hardware obsoleto con sus manos, la artista erotiza el acto de intervenir máquinas que han sido descartadas, abriendo una reflexión sobre el placer, la violencia, el deseo y el consumo.
Este gesto —romper con las manos— no es solo material; es simbólico: subvierte la relación de obediencia y dependencia que tenemos con la tecnología, especialmente en contextos donde el acceso es limitado y los dispositivos son importados, caducos o inaccesibles. Cortés Karam convierte esta destrucción en acto erótico, revelando la carga fetichista que tienen tanto los objetos tecnológicos como los cuerpos performáticos en los circuitos del arte y del trabajo sexual en línea.
Beat Screen se inserta en el postporno no solo por el uso explícito del cuerpo y el deseo, sino por cuestionar quién produce placer, para quién, desde dónde y con qué medios. Al comercializar las imágenes y fragmentos resultantes en mercados de arte y plataformas sexuales, el proyecto revela cómo se cruzan la economía del deseo, la precariedad y la fetichización del Sur global.
En su núcleo, esta obra habla del colapso: de máquinas, de sistemas económicos, de cuerpos representados como mercancía, y de la promesa fallida de progreso tecnológico. Y sin embargo, en esa ruina, encuentra nuevas formas de placer, resistencia y pregunta.

This time last year (March 6th, 2023) my friends Saoirse, Maya, Gabi and Rachel were visiting from San Francisco, California at my -back then- Mexico City home in Portales. Funny and lucky enough, my dear friend Karla Mora, from San Francisco pa’loscuates San Pancho Nayarit, was crashing too. Their visit coincided with the second shooting of my project ‘Beat Screen’ which I had planned with friend and filmmaker, Ximena. The shooting was pretty simple, it was meant to take place at my place and it would consist of just us on the patio, the camera, a bunch of tech trash and some tools to destroy it. But, just as good friends do, the minute the girls heard about it they were already brewing hot ideas and ways to make them happen. So, when the 6th came, after days of heavy tourism and just a little bit of hardcore partying, las morras chilling at our much improvised pijamada transformed themselves into thee coolest girl gang in-home instant-made production crew and the whole house became a working set for a girlfriend postporn adventure. That day we made magic! We danced, performed and flexed our understanding of making porn and independent film. It’s been a year and so much has happened since then… the shooting resulted in an archive of images and sounds that have heavily fed ‘Beat Screen’ and have toured parts of the US and the Czech Republic -always looking for screens and dark rooms so please if you have any clues holler-, all these ladie’s careers and projects have continue to bloom in amazing and powerful directions, and as for our friendship, we’ve remained alive and together through storm and sunshine. Today, realizing that one year has passed, it feels like such a different life. I find it mind blowing how loaded time and collective creation can be, I cry with gratitude, pain and an indescribable feeling of looking forward to something I can’t seem to even grasp or wrap my head around yet. But what I do know, even more than I already did then, is that I love you all. Chavas, thank you for trusting, playing, making porn and art, but overall thank you for sharing this vida loca with me.
