A sincere farewell letter from Federico Tello to the community of La Pocha Nostra and la Casa Sur.
Dear friends and colleagues, I am writing to you after a beautiful journey, a path that has marked me deeply, both personally and professionally. At that time fear of the pandemic reminded us how fragile life is. Around that time, Guillermo Gomez Peña took possession of his house at Cocoteros, in the Nueva Santa María neighborhood of Mexico City, reclaiming his childhood home and his family history inside those walls. Amidst all the surprise and uncertainty—Guillermo receiving his beloved home—the sacred dance began between Guillermo, Bali, and me, inhabiting, getting to know, protecting, and regenerating the house. Bali and Guillermo continued their journey between San Francisco and Mexico City, while I fully immersed myself in the Valley of Tenochtitlan and the new Santa María. We welcomed artists, friends, and family for weeks, days, and even just a few hours, staging performances in every corner of Casa Sur. I grew, I really grew… and I returned to my city and my people, my art and my family. Guillermo, Bali, Emma, and my beloved Pocha Nostra community embraced me and helped me lick the wounds of a young, nomadic performance artist with a burning desire to break down borders—spiritual, mental, and physical.
January 2026, here I am saying goodbye to this house and this crucial moment for myself, also remembering to myself that every cycle, every long good kiss, every dream or nightmare, every poem and live performance has its end, and as conscious and loved beings we are, we must accept and go through grief and farewell in order to come back to what we truly are and desire. Today, January 13 2026, I say goodbye to this sacred space and vortex that Guillermo and Bali entrusted to my care and protection, and where Martha, Guillermo’s mother, queen and spirit of this house/temple, sheltered and embraced me, as only a mother who loves her child unconditionally knows how. Thank you.
