What happens when dancers follow their second thought instead of their first instinct?
ON SECOND THOUGHT invites audiences inside a live creative experiment where instinct is interrupted, choices are reconsidered, and choreography emerges in surprising ways. Created by choreographer Bret Easterling and presented with @be_moving , the work is vibrant, collaborative, and full of possibility.
This performance is part of First Looks, the culminating showcase of Banff Centre’s Dance Production Residency—an evening of new works developed through weeks of exploration, risk-taking, and technical creation.
See it before it travels beyond Banff.

CAMILA ARANA GOES SOLO // 2025 GHOST LIGHT ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
“I worked completely backwards from what I’m used to doing, and it actually gave me more information than I expected.” @camilaaranaa
Throughout her week at the Alex Theatre, Camila explored what it means to create alone — reordering her process and allowing light, sound, and space to guide her discoveries.
“Having access to the theater throughout the beginning of my creative process meant that I was able to expand the way I approach making work and try an entirely new sequence for composing.”
What began as a challenge to make her first solo became a study in transformation.
“It feels good to know that tomorrow I’ll be a different person and my soul will be in a completely different place, but the work can accommodate that change and grow with me.”

GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY!
Improvisation/Movement Generation Prompt
Physcialize the action of ‘getting out of your own way.’ Allow multiple interpretations of this prompt from the literal to the metaphysical. Enjoy the impossibility of this task, as you inevitably are always somehow in your own way, and use it to unlock the endlessness of your research. Simply, the goal is to get your body moving away from wherever you are in order to help you progress in your exploration.

BEMOVING is proud to announce its inaugural Research Fellowship and first fellow, Brian Golden — dancer, choreographer, and CalArts MFA candidate. @briangolden13
Through this fellowship, Brian will explore rehearsal models developed by neurodiverse and disabled artists, creating frameworks for more inclusive modes of training and choreography.
The BEMOVING Research Fellowship is designed to create avenues for collaboration with artists who can ignite dialogue within the field and propose new means of working together. Each awarded fellow will conduct and record interviews with dance artists and movement practitioners who share their uniquely identified perspective on the field. Fellows will receive $1,000 to support their research which will be published in the BEMOVING newsletter and online. This program provides an opportunity to recognize missing systems of support within the infrastructure of dance in Los Angeles and beyond.
Stay tuned as Brian’s work and research unfold.
